Dear Parents,

We have one week left of this school year! Please take special notice of the dismissal time of 12:35 for the last day of school. We are looking forward to the 8th Grade Awards Ceremony tomorrow! If you are unable to make it, certificates are available for pick up in the front office next week. Students are turning in Chromebooks and chargers on Thursday and Friday of next week, those details are below.

Lovejoy ISD Technology is collecting student Chromebooks and chargers at Willow Springs Middle School on 5/23 and 5/24. To facilitate this process with minimal disruption, we have adjusted our final exam schedule:

On Thursday, May 23 8th Period Athletics students will turn in their Chromebooks and chargers beginning around 2:30pm. A device is not needed for the final exam in 8th period athletics, this is why we are starting with this group. Students are still required to attend the 8th period final on May 24 in order to receive their final grade.

On Friday, May 24, All students will take their 8th period exam in the morning. After the exam, we will begin the Chromebook collection process. We kindly ask that parents not sign out students early on the last day of school. If you need to sign out your child, please wait until after we have collected their Chromebook. We anticipate this process lasting from 10:45 - 12:35.

We greatly appreciate your support so that our devices can be accurately accounted for and processed. After turning in the Chromebook and charger, students will receive a receipt that states if any fees for repairs or replacements are needed. If your student cannot locate the charger, please see the information below.

Would you like to have an extra chromebook charger? Students are free to purchase usb c chargers of similar spec from amazon. Scan the QR code below for an example.

replacement charger, and bring the receipt to the campus technician for pickup.

If your child has any medication in the clinic at school, please make arrangements to pick it up on or before the last day of school. All medications must be picked up by Friday May 24th at 12:45 pm.

Parents are responsible for picking up medication as the school district has a policy against sending medication home with students. After 12:45 pm on Friday 5/24/24, any remaining medication, including inhalers & EpiPens, will be thrown out. The school cannot store these for you during the summer. If your child is going to need medication at school during the 2024-2025 school year, you will need to complete a new medication form at the beginning of the school year and bring a SMALL or travel size bottle of medicine that is not expired. For emergency medication such as EpiPens, Inhalers, Seizure and Diabetic meds, a new action plan/doctor order will be needed. Blank action plans are attached to this email for your convenience.

We have two classes of tennis.

1. Entry-level or beginner to intermediate class w/o competition

2. Varsity class with competition. We will have a tryout at the high school tennis courts:

Boys on May 17th 5:30 - 7:00 pm

Girls on May 20th 5:30 - 7:00 pm

If you plan to participate you will need to try out. You will need to have a

1. Physical & Medical history form,

2. Rank One Sports online forms completed

3. Concussion SWAY test completed.

I will remove all those that do not have completed and turned in by July 1.

We've received many requests for next year's school supply list. The list is linked below. Please note that it is subject to change. We do not need students to bring everything on this list for the first day of school. We recommend that they bring basic supplies (from the column on the left) for the first week.

24 -25 WSMS School Supply List

At WSMS, student cell phones are to silenced and out of sight during the entire instructional school day. Phones are strictly prohibited in restrooms and locker rooms. Cell phones should remain in backpacks and out of sight in all areas such as the cafeteria and hallways. Students may utilize the phone in the front office to contact parents if needed. Staff members will confiscate phones and turn them in to the front office for parent pick up if students are in violation of the policy. Thank you for your support.

Our campus does not accept meal service deliveries. Parents may drop off food items for their child only at lunch time. You may drop off lunch for your child only. We have noticed a sharp increase in the number of group food orders delivered and requests to distribute it. We do not allow this at the middle school for the safety of our students with food sensitivities or allergies.

Students may pick up dropped off lunches on their way to the cafeteria for lunch.

Please note that our office staff is not authorized to receive or distribute dropped off medication to students. Please contact our nurse, Ms. Glover, if you have questions about medication procedures through the school clinic.

Attendance continues to be a top priority for Lovejoy ISD. It should come as no surprise that attendance has a direct relationship with student learning. Additionally, public school funding is provided by the State of Texas based on each district's average daily attendance (ADA).

Lovejoy has developed an Attendance Task Force consisting of staff, parents, and students to formulate ideas about how to positively impact ADA in our district. One suggestion is to update the community via weekly principal communication on the number of absences each campus has accrued YTD along with the budgetary impact of those absences. This information can be found below:

WSMS office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:35 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Each visitor to our campus is required to show ID at the front doorbell camera and state the reason for the visit before clearance to enter the building. Please wait for the door to be unlocked and do not hold open the door for others who have not yet been verified to enter. When students are signing out, a parent or guardian is required to enter the office to sign them out. We do not send our students outside to waiting vehicles. Thank you for supporting us as we keep safety and security the top priority.

New! Summer School for rising 9th graders

Deadline to register is May 28, 2024

Lovejoy High School will be offering the following online courses for original credit in summer school through the virtual Imagine Edgenuity platform. Original credit means the student has never sat through the course. The cost is $350 per semester.

-Geometry (student must take semesters A and B) (1 full credit)

-Personal Financial Literacy (.5 credit)

-Health (.5 credit)

-Lifetime Fitness and Wellness Pursuits A or B (each semester is worth .5 credit)

Once the student has registered and paid for summer school, the student will be provided their Imagine Edgenuity login information via their LHS email. Students may work from home; however, all tests/exams must be taken at LHS. When a student is locked out of the program due to a test, he/she must come to the LHS summer school computer lab to take the test/exam before being able to proceed. The student is also welcome to work in the summer school computer lab during the week. Feel free to bring lunch or snacks.

Session 1: June 3-21

Session 2: July 8-26

Computer lab will be open from 9:00am-3:00pm Monday-Thursday.

The course must be finished within the summer session the student registered for.

The Lovejoy Visual Art program is excited to announce the opening of the 16th annual LJVA AP Studio Art Exhibition on May 18th from 5 - 9! We cannot wait to share this wonderfully diverse and thoughtful collection of work with our community. The range of approaches, processes, and creativity behind these 16 artists' work is a beautiful testament to the legacy of Lovejoy Visual Arts. Please join us Saturday, May 16th from 5 - 9 pm to honor these artists and their work while gaining insight into their personal investigation and ideation. At the exhibition, you have the opportunity to meet the artists, hear about their work and process, and purchase available artwork. We are also excited to invite you to participate in our yearly charity auction of original work. This year our auction will be benefiting the Vogel Alcove, a non-profit organization on a mission to help young children overcome the lasting and devastating effects of homelessness. The Lovejoy Visual Art program strongly believes in using our gifts to give back to our larger community and would love for you to join us in this yearly tradition.
