What's Up At The Nest...

We hope Olive-U enjoyed the winter break! Students wasted no time getting back into the swing of things at OMS including setting goals for the second half of the year. So interesting to see what students hope to work on...help mom and dad load the dishwasher, be nicer to my sister, practice math facts, feed the dog. Some of our 5th graders hosted a probability fair (aka homemade carnival games) for a 2nd-grade class. Check out the video below. We love cultivating relationships between our older and younger students. On Thursday night, thanks to our awesome PTA, we enjoyed some amazing bike tricks and a great reminder to never give up our dreams thanks to Matt Wilhelm. A couple friends and I snapped a selfie when he wasn't spinning around on his bike!

On Time to School

Parents, we need your help! Since winter break, we have seen an increase in the number of students arriving late to school. District 25, recognizes the impact of regular school attendance on educational performance. It is also important for students to have a good start to their day by arriving on time. The truancy process is begun when a student has been absent or tardy for more than 5% of school days. Students should arrive at 9 am so they can be in class, ready to start their day at 9:05 am. Any students arriving after 9:05 am must be signed in by an adult at the office. We greatly appreciate your efforts to get your children to school on time on days when they are healthy. STEAM Night - Save the Date!

STEAM Night is coming to OMS! A fun, hands-on, interactive night for ALL (young and old) to explore the world of Science Technology Engineering Arts and Math! Local businesses and community members will be present to show how STEAM is in our everyday lives. The 4th Grade concert will be held during the night as well! This event is open to all OMS families but to help us with our supply counts for some of our stations please let us know if you think you will be attending. To help us order materials and plan the event, please click HERE so we have an idea of how many people might attend.

Winter Weather Gear

During these cold and snowy months, please make sure your child comes to school prepared to go outside with a hat, mittens, snow pants, and boots. We head outside to get some fresh air and play unless the wind chill is below zero.

Valentine's Day

Classroom Valentine's Day parties will be held on Thursday, February 14. If your child will be passing out Valentine's Day cards to other students, the cards cannot have any candy or food attached to them per the district's wellness policy. Items such as pencils, erasers, stickers, etc. are great alternatives as long as they are not edible. Goodie bags filled with treats or candy are also not permitted. PTA room reps. and classroom teachers will be sending out additional information about the parties soon. We greatly appreciate our room reps. and all of our volunteers who organize and provide fun Valentine's Day experiences for our students.
