The Hueytown offense ended the year with 3,330 total yards and set an AHSAA record with 41 1st downs in a single game. In 2021, Hueytown was the 6A State Runner-Up as they set an AHSAA record with 784 points scored. In 2022, Carroll’s offense scored 44.5 points per game which was the highest in 6A.

Coach Carroll said, “Lauren and I are very excited to join the Hewitt-Trussville family. I want to thank Dr. Martin, Mr. King, Mr. Walker, and Coach Floyd for providing me the opportunity to serve the students at HTHS. Under Coach Floyd’s leadership, Hewitt-Trussville has become a premier program in arguably the toughest region in the state of Alabama. It’s obvious that Hewitt-Trussville has high expectations academically and athletically. As a family, we are looking forward to being part of the community and supporting the students.”
Head Coach Josh Floyd stated, “The Hewitt-Trussville football family wants to welcome Ethan Carroll as our new Offensive Coordinator. We are thrilled to have Ethan, Lauren and their family joining our program. Coach Carroll has been very successful at Hueytown the last few years, running one of the top offenses in 6A football. In 2022, Hueytown led all of 6A averaging 44 points per game. He has run a very similar offensive system that goes right along with our current Husky Fast offense. Coach Carroll truly cares about players and we believe he will be a great mentor to our kids on a daily basis. Since 2014, the Husky Fast offense has averaged 36 points per game, which is the 2nd highest in 7A. We look forward to Coach Carroll bringing more great ideas to our team both on and off the field. We believe Ethan is the right fit at the right time and we look forward to their family joining HT football!”
Carroll graduated from Troy University in 2013 with a degree in Social Science Secondary Education. He later added a Master’s degree in Ed Leadership from the University of Alabama in 2021.

Coach Abney said, “I remember begging Coach Garrett daily to take over the program when he was ready to resign from bowling and focus on football. Fortunately, Lance Walker saw something in me and hired me to take over. It has been an amazing experience learning from my current and former bowlers and being able to help our team become one of the most respected programs in the state. I am grateful for all of my years at HTHS and look forward to supporting our system throughout my retirement.”
HTHS Principal Aaron King said, “It is bittersweet to see Coach Abney retire. While I am happy for him as he takes his next steps in life, I will miss not working with him daily. Coach Abney has spent a career working hard in the classroom and in the bowling alley. His impact on the school culture is palpable. I have no doubt we will see Coach Abney from time to time in the community, at the school, and almost certainly at the bowling alley cheering on the Huskies!”
Trussville City Schools Athletics Director Lance Walker stated, “I would like to congratulate Coach Abney on his retirement. He has done a tremendous job leading our Bowling program. Coach Blume stated, “I am so excited to be coming to Hewitt-Trussville and taking over such a great program. It is very bittersweet to leave Southside after 10 years, and they will have outstanding teams coming back, but this is the right move for me and my family. Following Coach Abney won’t be easy, but I’m ready to get to know the kids and get to work. Hewitt has an incredible tradition in Bowling going all the way back to the 1970s and I can’t wait to get started adding to that tradition and bring home a few more blue maps!”
Hewitt-Trussville High School Principal Aaron King stated, “When I learned Coach Abney would be retiring I knew we would have our work cut out for us in finding a replacement. I truly believe we have the perfect fit for Hewitt-Trussville High School in Coach Blume. Not only has he coached Bowling at a high level, he is also an exceptionally skilled math teacher. I look forward to cheering our student-athlete bowlers on to many more wins under Coach Blume’s leadership!”
