Rancho Roundup Week 35

Dr. V's Message
Teen Driver Reminders
Longhorns! We want to remind all our teen drivers of four or two-wheeled families that traffic safety starts with personal responsibility. Around Rancho Buena Vista High School, we have seen an increase in traffic citations due to students not following the basic rules of the road. Please review the California Driver's Handbook from the California DMV with your Longhorn.
As a proactive measure, in 2021, RBV changed how students enter and exit campus, and we have since seen improved safety for our pedestrians. In 2022, RBV launched the Start Smart Driving Safety Class in partnership with the California Highway Patrol and the North Coast Prevention Coalition. This required class educates students and their parents on safe driving practices and must be completed to obtain a campus parking permit. Building on that commitment, in 2023, both RBV and the Vista Unified School District expanded efforts to include our growing bike and e-bike riders by launching the Ride Smart Safety Class, a required workshop for students who park e-bikes at school. We also want to acknowledge and express our sincere appreciation for our collaborative partnership with the City of Vista Traffic Division. Earlier this year, we extended crosswalk signal durations and introduced a dedicated pedestrian phase, enhancements that will significantly contribute to student safety.
We have much more work to do and need your continued support at home to continue our efforts rooted in prevention, education, and community responsibility. We urge all students and families to stay committed to safety every day.

Spring Well Being Surveys
Intellisaprk Parent Notification
Our school district has significantly invested in providing our middle and high school students with unique opportunities. By participating in the Intellispark surveys, our students are not just sharing their feelings about engaging, connecting, and belonging at The Ranch but also playing a crucial role in shaping our school environment. These online surveys will be conducted in their classrooms three times a year (e.g., fall, winter, and spring).
Below is more information:
Multiple-choice survey questions help educators understand their students' interests, goals, and preferences, including their adult and peer relationships and their sense of school engagement, support, and belonging.
This data was designed to provide school-level information on key indicators that align with the California Healthy Kids Survey. The belonging, connection, and engagement surveys have been designed to provide information on key indicators that align with the CHKS and are specific to connectedness.
A student, the current teachers who have that student, and anyone at the site with “Administrative Access” (e.g., counselors) may see the student profile and their responses to survey questions. Teachers who do not currently teach the student do not have access to student information.
When a student's response indicates a low score to questions about their social-emotional well-being, our RBV administration and counselors are ready to step in. This is a protocol and testament to our commitment to every student's well-being. We will follow up three times a year when the survey is administered.
Vista Unified School District has a contract with Intellispark. This includes legal agreements in which Intellispark may not interact with or send/sell any student's data to any other entity, including sending data to parents or family members.
If you have any questions, please contact the school. If you do not want your student to participate in this survey, please complete this Opt-Out Form.

New A-G Graduation Requirements, begins with the Class of 2029
What is A-G?
A-G is a set of specific high school courses that students must complete to be eligible for admission to California public universities, such as the University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU).
These tools help students:
Stay on track for high school graduation
Explore college and career pathways
Keep their options open for a variety of opportunities after high school
By thinking about the big picture, students can set goals and make informed choices throughout their high school journey.

YEARBOOK Updates
YEARBOOK: The 2025 yearbook will be here before you know it, and sales are picking up. Make sure to order yours before they sell out. Books are $100, payable in the finance office or at yearbookforever.com. Please make sure you have not already purchased a yearbook for your student; refunds will not be given for duplicate orders.
- ANGEL BOOKS: Each year we request help from our school community to get yearbooks into the hands of deserving seniors for whom the book is cost prohibitive. Our publisher calls these "Angel Books." There are several ways to contribute to this program:
- Visit the finance office and make a donation to the yearbook account. Make sure you tell them the donation should go toward an Angel Book.
- Visit yearbookforever.com and scroll down to "Donate a Yearbook." You have the option of donating a full book or making a custom donation. Any amount helps!
"See Something, Hear Something, Say Something"
A key resource in fostering a safe and supportive school climate at RBV is PSST World, an anonymous reporting tool that empowers students to report safety concerns confidentially. Fear of retaliation often prevents students from speaking up, but PSST World provides a secure way to report bullying, cyberbullying, abuse, threats, self-harm, weapons, or other issues affecting school safety—without revealing their identity.
Students only need to provide their name if they wish to be contacted. To submit a report, click here or on the PSST World icon above. Explore the videos and resources on this page to learn more. Thank you for helping keep RBV and VUSD a safe place to learn and grow!
Please feel free to browse through the videos shown to the right of this page for more information. Also, additional resources are also linked below that will help you create a PSST shortcut on your device.

Need to Contact a Coach
If you need to contact a coach about a specific sport please see the list attached below:
Sport Request Form
Are you looking for a sport but do not see it on our website? The form below is to request the school to look into offering new CIF sports on campus.
Dear RBV Families and Community,
We’re excited to announce a new initiative to strengthen collaboration and dialogue between our students, families, and athletic program. Beginning this school year, we’re introducing a Sport Request Form designed to give students and community members the opportunity to express interest in adding new sports to our school’s athletic offerings. This form allows us to gather valuable insights, gauge interest, and better understand the needs and wishes of our community when it comes to expanding athletic opportunities.
While we are committed to exploring each request thoughtfully, please know that there are various factors that affect our ability to implement new sports, including resources, staffing, and facility availability. Even so, your input is essential as it helps us make informed decisions and better align our programs with the interests and passions of our students.
The Sport Request Form is available on our website at www.rbvathletics.com, and we welcome submissions throughout the year.
Thank you for being an essential part of our school community and for helping us continue to foster a dynamic and inclusive athletic environment for our students.
We are seeing an increase in students riding electric bikes to school. We have a new parking area for the bikes and students have been doing great with using our new procedures. We have a few resources to share regarding bike safety as well as a link to the required bike safety course students must attend to obtain a parking permit for their bikes.
Online safety course is being developed to support our students safety.
