Communication Matters
Dear Fremont Staff, Families, and Community,
We have enjoyed a phenomenal start to the school year. Traditions, such as the PTO’s Back-to-School Bash, are back, affording our students, families, and staff a chance to reconnect and energize for a new school year. As the new Superintendent, I am enjoying getting to know all of you and participating in the many outreach events we have hosted over the past several weeks.
We hope you notice our increased focus on communication and outreach. It is important that our Fremont community is well-informed and part of our District’s ongoing work. Our recent efforts include launching rebranded school and District e-newsletters delivered on predictable schedules, testing our emergency alert system at the start of the year, initiating a weekly staff newsletter, and improving message coordination among the schools and the District.
Starting in September, we are scheduling focus groups with students, staff, and parents as part of the Superintendent’s Entry Plan process. This feedback will be used to inform the strategic direction of Fremont School District 79 over the next 3-5 years. Listening to many voices in our community is critical in developing a shared vision.
Later on in this newsletter, you can read more about efforts to improve community access to School Board meetings and materials. At the September 26 meeting, we look forward to presenting the Board with a comprehensive Communications Plan for the 2022-23 school year. As a preview, this plan will include a thorough audit of our communications efforts that will be conducted by school communication specialists.
Ensuring our community is well-informed reinforces our commitment to this year’s focus of “connection and belonging.” Have a wonderful week and enjoy a safe and relaxing holiday weekend!
Sincerely,
Trisha Kocanda
Superintendent of Schools

Anaphylaxis Policy
At its meeting on Monday, August 22, the FSD79 Board of Education approved Policy 7:285 which addresses Anaphylaxis Prevention, Response, and Management. This policy ensures that our schools engage in a collaborative effort with families and medical personnel to support the needs of students at risk of a severe allergic reaction. If you have any questions regarding the implementation of this policy, please contact your building principal or nurse.
