Kingsley Connection
October 4, 2024
Dear Kingsley Families,
We've had a wonderful week at school, filled with great learning and positive energy! Our students are doing amazing work, and we are proud of their efforts.
Next week, we will be conducting bus evacuation drills to ensure students are prepared for emergencies. Safety is our top priority, and these drills are an important part of that.
We are also excited to connect with you at our upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences on October 8th and 10th. These meetings are a valuable opportunity to discuss your child's progress and goals for the year.
Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Attendance Letters - Went Home Today
Regular school attendance is crucial for your child’s academic and social development. We appreciate your partnership in helping them arrive at school on time each day.
District 58 is focused on improving student attendance, and as a part of this effort, I will be sending an attendance awareness letter home to each student’s family. This letter has been sent home today, October 4, and it will include the number of days your child has been in attendance. Please reach out to me should you have any questions about your child’s attendance or this letter.

Halloween at Kingsley
District 58 has a rich and diverse population in our learning community. District 58 staff members recognize that many families have different beliefs; and because of religious, cultural, or personal reasons, some families may choose to not be involved in Halloween activities. If you would not like your child(ren) to participate in Halloween activities, please communicate this with your classroom teacher and Mr. Brewster/Mrs. Gajewski. We will then find an alternative location and activity for your child during the Halloween activities.

SAFETY PREPAREDNESS
Last year, District 58 began utilizing the ALICE safety training model for responding to Active Threat situations. ALICE is an options based response that allows you to make decisions based on the information provided during an active threat incident. Below is a parent video that explains ALICE safety training model. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Mr. Brewster or Mrs. Gajewski.
Calling students to participate in Reflections!
All Kingsley students are invited to participate in the PTA Reflections program! This nationally sponsored art contest provides opportunities for recognition and access to the arts, which boost student confidence and align with our Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) goals. Entries will have the chance to advance to the Council, Region, State and National Levels!
Here’s how you can help support your student’s participation:
Read more about the Reflections program and this year's theme, "Accepting Imperfection."
Encourage your student to start creating! They can make a drawing, painting, dance routine, poem, short story, song, film … how they interpret this year’s theme is up to them.
Learn about the categories for entries and look over the contest rules.
Entries are due Friday, Nov. 1
Drop off visual art and written projects in the front office. Digital entries (music, dance, film, photography) can be turned into the office on a flash drive, CD or DVD, or uploaded to a free hosting service (Vimeo, YouTube) and emailed to kingsleypta.reflections@gmail.com.
Look out for more information in upcoming Kingsley Connections! Questions? Email Colleen Malone at kingsleypta.reflections@gmail.com
Health/Physical Examination & Immunization Record due October 15th
As required by law, all new students, as well as students entering grades K, 2, and 6, must receive health examinations and immunizations and submit completed health forms by October 15th. To learn more check out the Health Services page on the District 58 website.
Thank you to many of the families who have already completed and submitted these forms. In accordance with Illinois law, failure to comply with these requirements by Oct 15 of the current school year, or 30 days following registration for first-time registrants, will result in the student's exclusion from school until such requirements have been met. All sections of the child examination form must be completed including the health history, which must be filled out by the parent.
District 58 communicates frequently regarding these requirements as it is our hope to avoid school exclusion for all of our students. If you are in need of additional assistance, our school nurse, Olivia Kuster at okuster@dg58.org or 630-719-5850, would be happy to assist you in answering questions or connecting you with resources to complete this requirement.
Health Services Update
As the year begins, we’ve noticed an increase in students visiting our health offices for insect bites, particularly on the neck, face, and arms. These bites are often red and itchy, and while we can provide Calamine lotion or an ice pack to ease discomfort, other over-the-counter treatments like Benadryl cream or Hydrocortisone require a completed Medication Authorization Form.
Please ensure that these medications are not sent to school with your child unless proper authorization is in place. If you have any questions or need assistance, don’t hesitate to contact your school’s health office.
Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our students safe and healthy.
For those who want to know more about cicada mites , here's a bit more background. Thanks, everyone!
