LaLiberte Weekly Update
March 20, 2025
Dear Families:
A message about MCAS:
As we prepare to administer the MCAS test in each of our schools, I want to clarify some anticipated confusion regarding the test itself. The MCAS test still exists and will still be administered to students in grades 3-8 and 10. Recent legislative changes removed using MCAS as a graduation requirement, however, the district is still required by law to administer MCAS.
MCAS testing serves many purposes and fulfills both state and federal requirements around standardized testing. This testing not only helps us to identify areas of strength and areas that need improvement through professional development, curriculum review, and student support, but it also serves as an important metric in our standing in DESE’s accountability system. This system provides clear, actionable information to families, community members, and the public about district and school performance. Additionally, the accountability system helps the state to direct resources and assistance. The framework for the accountability system allows the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to identify districts and schools that require assistance or intervention in addition to those that are demonstrating success.
I ask for your support in talking to your child about the importance of doing their best on the MCAS tests. Their teachers have provided them with all the educational experiences and tools necessary to be successful.
I ask that our students plan to get a good night’s sleep each night, eat a good breakfast and have faith in their abilities, not only on MCAS testing days, but every day.
Our MCAS dates are:
April 7 and 8 Gr. 3 ELA
April 10 and 11 Gr. 4 ELA
May 12 and 13 Gr. 3 Math
May 14 and 15 Gr. 4 Math
Happy Friday!
We hope you have a wonderful weekend!
