News From Mr. Gonzalez
Parents and Families of TCES
Recently TCES conducted a school survey with our 2nd grade students. Their feedback on this survey is incredibly valuable to us, and we want you to know that it will be used to help make meaningful improvements in the way we operate at the school. We are committed to creating the best possible environment for our students, and their input plays a crucial role in shaping the changes we will make. The results will guide us in enhancing our programs, refining our practices, and ensuring that we continue to meet the needs of both our students and the broader school community. We appreciate your partnership and look forward to making these positive changes together.

Kindergarten News
Hello again!
Our kindergarten students have been showing us more and more each day that they are getting ready for first grade. We are starting to really master adding and subtracting within 10 and identifying those fact families! The students are now able to count fluently all the way to 20 and we will begin working on being able to identify the tens place value and adding the ones!
As always, we are adding new red words for the students to master each week. The students have made tremendous progress in identifying letter sounds in words so that they can spell them. The students have also become more familiar with identifying the correct vowel sounds in CVC words. We are continuing to use techniques such as tapping, and word maps each week to encourage phonemic awareness.
We hope you all are doing well and seeing your child’s progress as much as we have! Take care!

2nd Grade News
Hello families! It is hard we are nearing the end of the school year. The weather is still always changing, so please send your child in layers or with jackets.
In math we are beginning Topic 9 in our curriculum. This focuses various components of place value such as: reading and writing three digit numbers, place value patterns, skip counting, comparing numbers and problem solving. Please continue to help your kiddos practice their addition and subtraction fluency facts at home for at least 5-10 minutes a night! This skill is crucial to master in order to add and subtract fluently and be prepared for working with larger numbers.
Some things that we are practicing this month in Reading are: suffixes and prefixes, identifying text features, using context clues to identify meanings of words when reading, components of grammar, and continuing to practice writing complete sentences and paragraphs. It is so important to read to and with your students, even a few minutes each night can make a difference and help give students a love for reading! In science, we have been learning about plant life cycles. We will also move onto learning about animals cycles and habitats. Our reading coincides with these topics in our curriculum.
Other important info:
- Things we need donated to classrooms: Clorox/Lysol wipes, Kleenex, and classroom snacks.
- Please remind students to wear tennis shoes and appropriate clothes on PE days: Jankowski-Monday, Klein- Tuesday, J. Tolley- Thursday, M. Tolley- Friday
- March 3-7- Dr. Seuss Week

3rd Grade News
Hello Families!
Third grade has been working on Fractions in Math and we are wrapping up our Reading Module 7 on "how one person can make a meaningful difference in their local or global community?"
We are currently participating in two fundraisers. One is our Read-a-Thon and one is the Walk-a-Thon. The Walk-a-Thon is on Friday, March 7th, and we would love for you to join us. We will be leaving the school at 10:30 and walking approximately two miles. Please contribute to either of these two fundraisers in your child's name. Money raised will go directly to help classrooms and end of the year field trips.
We continue to work in our online math and reading platforms as well and these are easily accessible from home. If you would like to know more about these apps, please feel free to contact us.
As always, we welcome any suggestions or comments to make your child's experience better. We recently filled out an online survey dealing with this subject, and we will let you know the results. We are moving into our Interventions reading unit, so please talk to your child about this.

4th Grade News
Hello Wonderful 4th Grade Families!
We’re thrilled to share all the exciting things happening in 4th grade and what’s just around the corner!
Math Adventures
Our mathematicians have been diving into factors, multiples, and distinguishing between prime and composite numbers—all while continuing to sharpen their fraction skills. Coming up, we’ll embark on an exciting journey into geometry and measurement, where students will explore shapes, angles, and how math connects to the world around them.
Reading for Meaning
In reading, our focus has been on making inferences and drawing thoughtful conclusions from the text. Your children are learning how to support their ideas with solid evidence from what they read—an invaluable skill! Ask them about the stories and passages they’re exploring!
Science in Action
It’s all about simple machines in science! Students are discovering how tools like levers, pulleys, and inclined planes make work easier. From hands-on activities to real-world examples, they’re gaining a deeper understanding of the mechanics behind everyday life. Be on the lookout for a special project later in the month.
Social Studies
In social studies, we will explore the fascinating world of famous inventors, connecting this topic to our studies on simple machines and the HMH unit on the history of communication. Students will dive into research on these remarkable individuals, discovering their groundbreaking contributions and how they have shaped the world for the better.
Reminders for Success
- Stay Hydrated: Send a water bottle with your child daily to keep them refreshed and ready to learn.
· Keep Organized: Remember, students need to have their planners signed and returned to school daily. Planners serve as an important line of communication between school and home while also helping students build essential organizational skills.
Mark Your Calendars!
- Walk-a-Thon: Join us in cheering on our students at the Walk-a-Thon on March 7th! This is a great opportunity to support our school while getting active. All fundraising money must be turned in by March 6th. Let’s make this event a huge success! All proceeds go towards end of year field trips and activities for 4th grade.
- Spring Break: From March 10-14, we’ll be taking a well-earned break. We hope your family enjoys some relaxation and quality time together.
Snack Supplies Needed
Our classrooms are running low on snacks, and we could use your help! If you’re able to send in individually packaged snacks, it would make a big difference. Your support ensures our students stay energized and focused throughout the day—thank you in advance for your generosity!
We’re so grateful for your ongoing encouragement and support. Together, we’re building an incredible learning experience for our 4th graders. Let’s keep up the momentum and finish the school year strong!
Warm regards,
The 4th Grade Team

Spring Break March10-14
Learning Highlights:
Math: We are continuing our unit on fractions. We are multiplying fractions and will then be dividing fractions as well.
Reading: Our novel study for "Freak the Mighty" has really encouraged some great conversations in our classrooms. We will be continuing to read our novel, and working on skills that make us better readers. We are putting a lot of emphasis on learning new vocabulary, and especially on context clues to help us better understand words we don't know.
Science: We are continuing our study of Earth's interactive systems, such as the atmosphere and some of Earth's major weather events, like tornadoes, and winter storms. We will also be learning more about the biosphere, and what we can do to protect Earth's wildlife and plant life.
Reminders
- Please remind students to check the lost and found if they are missing any coats or jackets.
Always grateful,
5th Grade Teachers

Art News
Hi Families!
March 2025
Happy March!
All students are doing a great job creating self-portraits for Square 1 Art. Students are learning about how artists express ideas and feelings about themselves when making a self-portrait. We are also evaluating and critiquing important works of art. Square 1 Art is a fundraiser. Students will get free stickers with their self- portrait. Families will have the opportunity to buy merchandise. It’s so fun for students to see their art printed on stickers! See three amazing examples of student creativity below! Featured artists are Rory Maxham, grade 3, Bridger Murphy, grade 5, and Daizy Gomez, grade 2.
Coming soon: students will work with collage, sculpture, and painting. Fifth graders will be working with analog photography.
As always, please reach out with questions or concerns or ideas. We welcome your input about current and future art projects!

Hello from music!
K-2 has started working on talking vs singing voices and we will begin focusing on the Solfege Tone Ladder. We will play interactive games and activities to learn how to sing at different pitches on the tone ladder.
Grades 3-5 are finishing up our “create a musical” projects. Students were able to draw a set design and costumes that fit in with the plot of their musical. Then they presented their musicals to the class using a sound board for a variety of music and sound effects. In the next couple of weeks, we will being looking at performance options, more details to come.

Library News
Bookshelf Bulletin with Mrs. Q
We are going to be resuming with book check out and we have our spring BOGO book fair coming up in April. Please keep an eye out for flyers for that.
Thank you to everyone who turned in their overdue books before the holidays. If there are still outstanding books, I will be sending letters home again for those.
Don't forget to read to/with your students at home to help nurture their love of reading.
Save the Children
Hello and happy March!
The Save the Children classroom has now fully transitioned to better aligned with the Science of Read (SOR). The Science of reading is grounded in the understanding of how the brains learns to read. It focuses on strategies for teaching essential reading skills such as phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension.
We have completely steered away from Accelerated Reader in the Save the Children classroom but both MyOn and AR will still be available for students to use through their homeroom classroom.
As always, feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns. Have a wonderful March!
