March Learning Goals
Kindergarten
I can create a self-portrait assemblage with cardboard shapes.
I can think about how to show my self-portrait "in motion" using
the position of the shapes.
I can learn what an assemblage is.
I can use a variety of textures, colors, and patterns to add details,
such as hair and clothing onto my self-portrait assemblage.
First Grade
I can practice drawing an animal with shapes.
I can brainstorm what kinds of animals have tails.
I can draw an animal, thinking about the shapes, on big paper.
I can use my knowledge of primary and secondary colors to
mix the color of my animal and background.
Second Grade
I can practice drawing an animal from the Amazon rainforest,
noticing the simple shapes I can use to draw it.
I can learn about the Amazon rainforest and its animals and plants.
I can create an oil pastel drawing of a rainforest animal and plants.
I can use watercolor and oil pastel resist to finish my mixed media piece.
Third Grade
I can paint my flower/plant with gradient colors and tempera paint.
I can practice creating color gradients with
oil pastels and chalk pastels.
I can choose whether to finish my flower/plant with oil pastels or chalk pastels.
Fourth Grade
I can paint the biggest shapes in my landscape with solid colors,
thinking about my color mixing knowledge from my brainstorm.
I can use two color complements to paint details and
patterns in my landscape.
I can finish my landscape with craftsmanship and
as many details as I can.
Fifth Grade
I can create a clay mug or bowl using a pinch pot and coils.
I can use appropriate attachment techniques, slipping and scoring.
I can create a handle for my mug or bowl.
I can learn about clay processes.
I can add a creative element to my clay piece to make it unique.
First Grade Traditions
In January-February, first grade students created a mixed media image inspired by a special tradition.

Meet Ms. Chroneos
My name is Sofija Chroneos and I am the art teacher at Lowell School. A little about me, I have been teaching art for two and a half years. Outside of teaching, I work on ceramics, jewelry-making, and gardening projects. I come from a proud Greek-Croatian first generation immigrant family.
