CDW Weekly Wrap-Up

In honor of Veterans Day on Saturday, November 11th, CDW would like to thank all those who have served. We celebrate our Veterans for their patriotism, love of our country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for us.

Marking Period 1 has officially closed today, November 8, 2023. At this time, teachers are finalizing Marking Period 1 and Cycle 1 grades for each of their students. Report cards will be released at noon on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 via the Genesis Parent Portal.

Marc Hayford inspires and motivates audiences around the country with his platform, "Get Up! Encouraging You to Attack Life." He is a three time best selling author, dynamic podcaster, certified life coach, and accomplished motivational speaker. While at CDW, he spoke with the students about mindset, attitude, and positivity. In his remarks, he encouraged the students to be brave, to take on challenges, to work hard to achieve amazing things, to look forward to the future, and to lift others up instead of judging them.

Picture Retake Day is scheduled for Friday, November 17th. If your child was not in school on Tuesday, October 17th to have his/her individual picture taken, then he/she will have his/her picture taken on retake day. If you purchased your child's picture and do not like it, you can have your child's picture retaken on retake day. Your child must return the original photos on the day of the retake.

Parents who purchased digital pictures should have received them via email on Wednesday, November 1st, and parents who purchased hard-copy pictures will receive them soon.

Each year, we partner up with the Old Tappan Police Department to offer the LEAD (Law Enforcement Against Drugs), formerly DARE, program for our Grade 5 students. The students will complete the LEAD program through Mr. Bambach’s Social Studies classes beginning the week of November 14th.

If your child(ren) is interested in playing any sports or performing arts at NVOT, please fill out the respective form(s) below. This is not a commitment, but simply a way to get on the list to receive information from the activity advisor.

Basketball tryouts for the boys' basketball team will begin on Monday, November 13th. Basketball tryouts for the girls’ team has been moved to Tuesday, November 14th. The Preparticipation Physical Evaluation (PPE) may ONLY be completed by a licensed physician, advanced practice nurse (APN) or physician assistant (PA), who has completed the Student-Athlete Cardiac Assessment professional development module.

Intramurals with Mrs. Henriquez will begin on Friday, November 17th. The first sport will be volleyball! If your child(ren) is interested, he/she can see Mrs. Henriquez with any questions. Inter-Scholastic Sports and Intramurals Information can be found HERE.

Every first Friday of the month, the Class of 2024 will be selling candy and ice pops at dismissal for an afternoon treat. Students in Grades 5-8 can go to the Lynch Gym to purchase their treat of choice! Treats will be between $1-3 and will include, but will not be limited to: lollipops, M&M's, Twizzlers, Gummy Bears, Sour Patch Kids, etc. See the flyer below for more information.

The CDW Homework Club is offered to all of students in Grades 5-8 and is FREE! Please sign your child up each week that you are interested!

If you would like to purchase insurance for your child(ren)'s school issued Chromebook, please refer to the information below, or you may purchase directly from smarttechinsurance.com/old-tappan.

New to our insurance policy this year is that all Chromebooks must be in cases or the insurance will not cover any claims.

In an effort to minimize the potential spread of illness at school, please keep your child home if he/she:

• has a fever. Students should be fever-free for 24 hours without medication prior to returning to school.
• is nauseous or is vomiting.
• has diarrhea.
