Message from the Principal
Thank you so much for your partnership this year. As always, we could not do what we do without your support and contributions to our school community. We are so fortuante to have such an engaged group of families.
As you head into summer break, there are a few pieces of information that will be helpful for you to know about the summer as well as some information about next school year.
I hope you have a wonderful summer and we look forward to seeing you back here in August.
With Gratitude,
Sherry Marsh, Ed.D.
Principal
New Information
2024-2025 Meal Service
Free Meals for All
Starting next school year, all BSD students will be eligible to receive one free breakfast and one free lunch at school daily.
Families do not have to apply, and there are no income requirements. This change is due, in part, to more generous eligibility requirements at the federal level and more funding through the state’s Student Success Act. Research indicates that universal free meals improve student health and attendance in addition to reducing bullying and behavioral issues.
Student meals include an entree, sides and a milk. Students must take the entire meal to be eligible for the no-cost option; students who only opt for milk do not qualify for free milk. This is a federal requirement meant to encourage students to eat a well-balanced, school-made meal.
The district will continue to charge for à la carte items such as milk, second entrees and snack items.
If your student currently has a positive balance on their meal account and you would prefer not to carry that balance, you can apply for a refund by following the instructions on the Meal Pricing, Payments and Refunds webpage.
If your student currently has a negative balance on their meal account, please make arrangements to pay the debt as soon as possible.
Waiver/Discount on Student Fees
In the past, families applied for student fee waivers/discounts on the same application used for free and reduced meal eligibility. Since families will no longer need to apply for meal benefits, the process for student fee waivers/discounts is changing.
To apply for a student fee waiver/discount for the 2024-2025 school year, please complete the application for free/discounted student fees as part of the Online Verification process in August. The form should take less than a minute to complete. Look for the message regarding Online Verification on ParentSquare in August.
Again, these changes will take effect for the 2024-2025 school year.
Repeat Information
Calling ALL Volunteers - You Must Reapply!
To increase safety in our schools, the district will be transitioning to a new volunteer management system over the summer. All volunteers — regardless of when they were last cleared — will be required to resubmit an application. Please keep an eye out for a ParentSquare message this summer with more information.
