Cougar Community News
Woodside TK-8 Aug 9, 2024
Principal's Message
I hope everyone has had a fun-filled summer break. Mrs. Johnston and I were both able to spend time with our families, travel a bit, and get plenty of rest! We are back at work and gearing up for an amazing 2024-2025 school year!
As we head into our first full year as the Innovative School, we will have plenty of opportunities for our students to engage in hands-on learning and participate in lessons using Design Thinking. The three pillars for our work this year are: Belong, Experience, and Connect. It is our goal for all students, staff and families to feel a sense of belonging, experience hands-on learning, and lead and connect not only within our school but to the greater community.
Other changes this year include new staff!
Ashley Davis- Kindergarten, Bridgit McKay- 4th Grade, Jaclyn Weber- 5th Grade
Sarah Pfarr- 7th Grade ELA/History
Ms. Anderson has taken a position with our district supporting teachers. Ms. Misner is moving to first grade behind Ms. Anderson. Mr. Cerecedes will be our new middle school PE teacher while Mrs. Hull teaches the younger years. Mr. Vogt has moved to 8th grade to teach alongside Mrs. Pelley. While we were not able to keep our music teacher, we were able to secure Mrs. Swift FIVE days a week! She will be sharing space with Ms. Victor in the new Design Lab/Art Room!
Please join us for our first Cougar Cookout! This family event will be held on Wednesday, August 14th from 4:30-5:30pm. Bring the family for hotdogs, nachos, chips and a drink courtesy of Woodside.
Our first day of school is Thursday, August 15th!
Cheers to a great year!

Attendance Information
Student success starts with good attendance! This takes a combined effort. Regular attendance has been linked to higher achievement, stronger bonds to the school and community, lower rates of high-risk behaviors, and increased participation in higher education and career.
We ask that families support efforts to increase attendance by making a conscientious effort to:
Ensure students arrive to school and class on time
Plan family vacations during non-school days
Try to schedule doctor appointments for your child after school hours
Bring your child to school before and/or after appointments that are scheduled during the school day
Only allow your child to stay home when he/she has a contagious illness or is too sick to attend
Report your child's absence at Woodside Attendance: (916) 971-5216 or email woodsideabsence@sanjuan.edu
Optional TK and Kindergarten Lunch Routine
While we will continue to offer a cafeteria lunch to our TK and Kindergarteners, we ask you to follow the expectations below this year:
- Line up in cafeteria at 12:15pm MTWF and 12:05 Thursdays at the earliest.
- After attaining lunch, sit with your student in the cafeteria (at designated tables) or in the quad to eat the lunch.
- These young students need to have close supervision throughout the line, sitting, and eating the lunch.
- Clean up and leave campus as soon as your child finishes eating.
