School Newsletter Term 2, Week 5
Friday 31st May 2024
Kia ora Koutou,
We are thrilled to share that our recent cross-country event was a great success! Despite the cold weather, every participant gave their very best, showcasing our athletes' impressive running abilities. It was heartwarming to see students working so hard to complete the course, demonstrating perseverance and determination.
A huge thank you goes out to all the parents and grandparents who came down to support our young runners. Special thanks to Mrs. Black and the support crew, including Mr. B (Caretaker), Mrs. Garstang, Miss Bone, and Matua Rhys, who started early in the morning to ensure everything was ready for our tamariki. Your efforts made the cross-country event an exciting and memorable experience for everyone involved.
As the colder weather sets in, please ensure that students have warm clothing and keep them home if they are unwell. This is crucial for their health and well-being as we head into the winter season.
Winter sports are well underway, and we extend our gratitude to all the parents, especially the coaches and managers, who dedicate their time and energy to help our students enjoy and excel in their chosen sports. Your support is invaluable and greatly appreciated.
We would also like to remind you that there will be a Teacher Only Day on Tuesday, June 4th. Please note that A+ will not be offering supervision on this day. Our staff will be focusing on professional development in teaching numeracy, effective literacy, and continuing our Te Matauranga Māori mahi.
Enjoy the long weekend, stay warm, and stay safe.
King's Birthday and TOD next week
School will not be open on 3rd and 4th of June
A reminder to whānau that we have King's Birthday on Monday 3rd June which is a public holiday. There will be no school on this day. The next day (Tuesday 4th June) many schools in the Manawatū will be holding a Teacher Only Day where the Ministry have instructed us to work on curriculum development within our kura. Our school will also be closed on this day. We look forward to seeing everyone again on Wednesday 5th June.
Disco - next Friday!!
Space Disco - Friday 7th June
We will be having a new way of school discoing! We will have 2 separate discos - our Junior Disco for NE-Y4 children and the Senior Disco for Y3-Y6 children. Those Y3/4 students (Puāwaitanga) can choose if they want to go to the Junior or Senior disco.
Our Junior Disco will run from 3pm - 4pm in our school hall. Parents - you can collect your children at 4pm (we will be getting children into classes and waiting for you to take them home).
Our Senior Disco will run from 4.30pm and finish at 5.45pm - where we will organise your children into classes and release them when you have come to collect them.
Tickets can be purchased on Kindo and they are $5. This covers the cost of the ticket, a glow stick and a treat (chippies, drink, or a juicie). Tickets can be purchased until midnight on Thursday 6th June. Lollies, and other food will be available inside the disco, so children can bring money for extra food, but at their own risk.
We hope to see many of you there on Friday 7th June!
Senior Camp
Tipuranga
Room 13 have been showing lots of whakamana by learning new things. We have been engaged in our reading and maths groups, learning how to count, learning about multiplication, and recognising and writing our letters and sounds. We are learning so many new things!
Puāwaitanga
This term we are enjoying learning about Matariki. How lucky we all were to see Tahu-nui-ā-rangi in the sky on Saturday evening. Just another reason to celebrate the significance and beauty of Matariki. Rūma 1 has been looking at photos and reading about Tahu-nui-ā-rangi. We hope the stars are shining just as bright when we are ready to spot Matariki and Puanga in the night sky. We also tried our hand at creating our own aurora and writing about the beauty we saw in the sky.
Te Wao Nui o Tāne
In Room 5 as part of our Navigating the Journey, we have done a lot of talking about friends and the importance of showing Manaakitanga and Kotahitanga towards each other.
We have talked about how we need to help each other feel included. We listened to the song “Circle of Friends” which tells of the importance of there always being room for one more.
As part of this we traced around our hands and using some math skills, created our own circle of friends.
Some of our ideas about how we can be good friends
Felix: I am a good friend because I say positive things to other people.
Paw Law Eh: I am a good friend because I always try to help my friends when they need help.
Jesse: I am a good friend because I show respect to my friends.
Some of our ideas about how we can become a better friend.
Chanel: To be a better friend I could use my Manaakitanga more by being more helpful for those who need help.
Aadhya: To be a better friend I could help those new to our school feel welcome by checking in on them.
Samuel: To be a better friend I could use my words of encouragement to lift my friends up when they are finding it hard.
We discovered that friendship is a two way thing. In a really good relationship, the more we give, the more we get.
Cross Country 2024
Well done to all students for showing whakamana on Tuesday. We were delighted with the results and all students participated with a smile on their faces. We look forward to another successful whole school event in the future.

Senior students attending Interschools are being sent home with information this afternoon. This is on Wednesday 5th of June at Ashhurst Domain.
Bringing in spare clothes
Please can parents of younger children please send in spare changes of clothing; undies, pants, tops etc. These can just stay in their bags in case they have an accident. We are having quite a few toileting issues and our supplies (undies and pants) are not being returned when we lend them out. If your child likes to play on the field or the sandpit, they also need a change of clothes in their bag in case they get muddy - especially on wet days.

Term 2 Report Information

You will see what stage or level your child is achieving at, and there will be a comment from the teacher about your child’s achievement.
