A Message from Dr. Ortiz, Principal of Sandy Run

Good afternoon Sandy Run families. Tomorrow marks the halfway point of the first marking period, and our students have done a fantastic job thus far in the 2023-24 school year. Our students have really received our PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) kickoff with enthusiasm. The value of emphasis for September was positive citizenship and students have been recognized throughout the month for everyday displays of citizenship. This month, our focus is around Responsibility and how students can display this in their everyday lives. Each grade has (or will) have a meeting to identify characteristics and practices that illustrate strong responsibility in an effort to have a strong, positive schoolwide culture. We are very excited about the students' work so far and the foundation they have built for the future. With this being the midpoint of the marking period, it is a fantastic opportunity to have your child guide you through their Schoology page and have a conversation about their progress so far, along with any needs. If you have questions about a specific class, we'd encourage you to contact the classroom teacher. Please see the updates and information below, and I hope you and your family have a great weekend. Dr. Feeley Visits an 8th Grade ELA Class

Our Interim Superintendent, Dr. Feeley, enjoyed a visit to one of our 8th grade ELA Classes. Our ELA courses infuse reading and writing skills while giving students a great amount of choice in order to inspire enthusiasm for the curriculum. Sandy Run appreciates the support and close connection to each level of our district from the Superintendent on down! This interconnectedness leads to great student success.

Ms. Nuskey Leads PBIS Assembly

A welcomed area of focus for the year at SRMS is Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS). This approach to teaching and recognizing the desired traits and behaviors of students has resulted in positive results across the school. Each month, SRMS focuses on a different positive value in our students. Here, Ms. Nuskey leads a 7th grade discussion around the October value of focus: Responsibility. Students and staff have been so supportive of this initiative and we are proud to implement this approach into the fabric of Sandy Run.

SRMS Volleyball Season Underway

Coach Morgan and the Sandy Run Cardinal Volleyball team has gotten off to a strong start this year. The team has shown great dedication and hard work during practice, resulting in strong showings thus far in their competitions. Our student-athletes (and their coaches) demonstrate exceptional commitment to their craft and we are proud of their efforts on the court and fields. Good luck during the rest of the fall season!

Planetarium Event

  • The planetarium is hosting a community event/fundraiser on Friday, October 20th. This is geared toward elementary aged children but I thought I would share in case any of you would like to bring your kids and could help spread the word. The flyer is attached and also linked here.

  • Stay tuned to hear more about National School Lunch Week from October 9-13. The theme this year is "Level Up" and we will have great menus and games to celebrate.

The Upper Dublin Education Foundation

  • The Upper Dublin Education Foundation (UDEF) is a non-profit organization on a mission to enhance educational experiences throughout our District. This past year, thanks to the generous support of our community, Sandy Run Middle School students benefited from a new computer lab, a green screen enhancement and an expanded planetarium program.

UDHS Theatre Show Postcards

  • Last week the UDHS Theatre Department held their annual Show Season Reveal Party where students anxiously learned what productions will be held this school year. The Fall Play is Murder on the Orient Express, the Spring Musical is Footloose and the Children's Theatre Event is a Royally Talented theme.
