Cedar Grove Friday Flash
December 13, 2024
Dear Cedar Grove Families:
Last Monday, students and staff were surprised and in awe as they entered the school building and saw an amazing winter wonderland. The entrance hallway and front hallway were beautifully decorated with a winter theme, and the excitement and joy on all faces could not be missed. Thank you so much to the PTA, parent volunteers, and students from the Student Service Learning (SSL) program for creating this incredible display and festive atmosphere! Please take a moment to read the article linked below from the MOCO Show about our school and to view additional photos.

Continuing the holiday festivities, students also had an opportunity to visit the Holiday Shop this week and enjoyed browsing the many items on display. The Holiday Shop was also open last Tuesday evening to coincide with Movie Night. We are so appreciative of our PTA, chairpersons, and parent volunteers for creating such wonderful events for all to enjoy!
Please see an important message below from Mrs. Spoales, School Counselor:
Montgomery County Public Schools is taking an active role in the prevention of child abuse and neglect through early prevention and intervention education. During the weeks of January 6th-17th, our school counselor will be presenting lessons on the topic of child abuse and neglect. The lessons are known as Personal Body Safety Lessons and their purpose is to help students to:
- Develop knowledge, decision making skills, and behaviors which promote safe living in the home, school, and community.
- Learn skills for self-protection and identifying child abuse and neglect.
- Learn skills for asking for help for self and others and practice reporting to a trusted adult.
- Engage in positive and appropriate interactions with peers and adults.
If you have any questions or concerns about the topics that will be covered, please contact, Erin Spoales, our school counselor.
For our last week before winter break, students and staff are invited to participate in our Spirit Week, which will begin this coming Monday and culminate with a visit from the Damascus Marching Band and our Winter Sing Along on Friday. Please click here for more details about Spirit Week.
Have a wonderful weekend!

From Mrs. Hirschhorn, Media Specialist
The Winter Wonderland that our PTA created has launched an amazing few weeks before Winter break! Speaking of last few weeks before winter break, please make sure you take a look at the December 2024 media monthly. We completed our first week of Holiday Makerspace rotations and I think our students are enjoying this change in media activities. I'm sending another shout out to have the Acer 700 series home use devices returned to our media center. These devices have been decommissioned. If you would like a replacement, please fill out the form as soon as possible as the process takes several weeks. I've already received 20 book club permission forms, which is wonderful. The completed book club forms are due December 20, so that I know how many books to borrow from the public library. The maximum number of students who can join is 30. On another note (see what I did there?), I only have one student signed up for the music cafe. This event is always such a crowd pleaser for our students. Please Sign up for the 2025 music cafe! for our grade 4 and 5 music cafe performances in January and February. We have a lot going on in the building for this last week before winter break, which includes Pajama day, our Winter singalong, and a visit from the Damascus High School band on Friday. Have a wonderful weekend!
