Student Device Insurance
We are proud to again provide state-of-the-art laptops for our students to use throughout the school year. These laptops will help support classroom instruction and technological proficiency at school and home.
Because these laptops are expected to last for several years, we need to ensure that each device remains functional for as long as possible. As an option, if you as a parent are concerned that your child may accidentally lose or damage the laptop, you may choose to purchase an optional device protection plan.
We understand that accidents happen, which is why we offer this optional device protection plan for district-issued laptops through the company, School Device Coverage. This coverage costs $61 each school year for each laptop covered. All payments are made directly to School Device Coverage.
Their coverage includes replacement or repair in the event of theft, loss, or accidental damage of an insured district-issued laptop and/or the charger. The protection plan will NOT cover intentional or willful damages. If there is intentional or willful damage to a district laptop, the student and parent/guardian can be held responsible for the full-replacement or cost of repairs, up to the value of the district-issued laptop (about $650). If the protective covers are removed from the device, any damage will be considered willful.
The deadline for current students to enroll in this optional device protection plan for district-issued laptops is September 30, 2024. Device protection plans are only valid for the school year in which they were purchased. Device protection plans purchased for prior school years will not be valid for the current school year.
To sign up for the district-issued device protection plan, please go to https://schooldevicecoverage.com/.
Here is a short video to walk you through the sign-up process.
The district-issued laptop device protection plan will be effective from the dates you submit application AND when payment is received by School Device Coverage. The device protection plan will expire on August 8, 2025, or when your child graduates or withdraws from the Simi Valley Unified School District, whichever comes first.
If coverage is purchased and a claim will need to be submitted, the District Office personnel will file claims on your behalf. We will also update your device protection plan to any replacement laptops issued in the same school year. If coverage was not purchased, Simi Valley Schools will work with families to ensure students continue to have access to a district-issued laptop. Fines will be placed in Destiny, the same platform used for textbooks. If a district-issued laptop is stolen, a parent/guardian must file a police report within five days to the Simi Valley Police Department.
Helmets
If your child rides a bike or scooter to school they should be wearing a helmet. Please help keep your kids safe when traveling back and forth to school.

School Rules
We have been teaching and reviewing our school rules with all students since we started the new year. Our rules are:
1. Be Respectful
2. Be Responsible
3. Be Safe
We have posters up in our common areas (cafeterias, hallways, playgrounds and bathrooms) to help remind students of behavior expectations.
Breakfast
Students at Berylwood have the opportunity to get a free breakfast at school each day. It is served from 7:30-7:55 AM. If your child will have breakfast at school please be sure they get to school with enough time to eat it before school begins at 8:00 AM.
Student Attendance
Student attendance is important! Students are building routines and learning everyday. Start building good attendance habits early so students learn right away that going to school on time, every day is important.
Attendance Phone Messages
If you call the office and leave a message for your child's absence please include the following information: Student's full name, student's teacher, room number, and the reason why the student is absent. Please speak slowly when providing the information so we can clear the absence. If any of the information is left out or we can't understand what is being stated in the message we are not able to clear the absence. Thank you!
School Uniforms
Students are expected to wear their uniform daily. Students will wear a light blue polo or other collared blue shirt and dark solid blue bottoms. Any jacket, sweater, or sweatshirt with appropriate words and pictures is acceptable. Berylwood shirts may be worn on Fridays. Uniforms can be found at Old Navy, Target, Walmart, or Kohl's.
Visitors/Volunteers on Campus
All Simi Valley Schools use the Raptor Visitor Management System. This web-based software provides a sophisticated check-in and check-out system for all visitors coming to our schools and facilities. In addition to providing a data trail of visitors to our sites, this system will provide details of each visit, produce visitor badges, check-in/out all visitors, and electronically search each visitor’s information against national registered sexual offender databases. If you are scheduled to volunteer on campus you will need to complete the volunteer paperwork and provide a copy of your current state issued photo ID prior to helping at school. Each volunteer session you will need to bring your state issued ID so we can print your badge. Feel free to call our office at (805) 520-6705 with any questions.
