Message from the Principal
We are officially four weeks into a new school year. Teachers have been working hard to create welcoming, inclusive classroom environments while teaching and practicing school-wide and classroom routines and procedures. Instructional routines are being implemented and students are beginning their studies in this year's learning targets. This week and next, students in all grades will be assessed in language arts and math in order to establish a baseline for core instruction as well as enrichment and intervention. We are excited about all the opportunities for progress and growth a new school year brings.
The beginning of the year is also great time to review some important safety procedures for our whole school community. There is one area in particular where members of our school community continue to engage in unsafe behavior on a daily basis. Using our designated crosswalk at the intersection of Saltzman and Thompson is our safest route to school. Crossing at either end of our Saltzman lot or anywhere on Thompson (other than the designated crosswalk) is not safe for pedestrians or drivers. Crossing in the middle of road is a dangerous and potentially life-threatening activity. It is important that as the adults in our community we are modeling and practicing safe crossing procedures for our students. Thank you for keeping our whole school community safe and using the designated crosswalk (Saltzman and Thompson) on your way to and from school.
Thank you to everyone for remembering to turn RIGHT out of Thompson lot during arrival and dismissal. Even if the coast is clear turning right keeps the traffic moving, and everyone safe. We greatly appreciate your help with this important procedure.
With Gratitude~

New Information
The Dragon Dash is Coming!
Dear families and Caregivers~
Mark your calendars for October 9th, Dragon Dash day! This is a fantastic opportunity to cheer on your child while helping create an amazing experience for everyone. If you’d like to volunteer during your child's race, please sign up on the sheet and put your name next to the position you’d like to fill.
Here’s a brief overview of each role:
Gatekeeper: You will help guide family members and spectators to the visitor/cheering area.
Officer Check-in Helper: Assist volunteers in signing up using our new system. Here is the link to a step-by-step video explaining how to sign-up and sign out.
Bib Leader: On race day, coordinate the Bib Helpers to ensure that each child’s bib is marked after every completed lap. Make sure all Bib Helpers have markers and yellow vests.
Bib Helpers: Quickly mark each student’s bib after they complete a lap.
Photographers: Take group photos of each grade and capture action shots during the race. Upload the images to the provided Google Drive link.
Otter Pop Givers: Distribute Otter Pops to kids after their race. Refill the container as needed, using extra Otter Pops stored in the school kitchen freezer.
Pre-Event Setup Volunteers: Assist with setting up the event by inflating the arch, gathering cheering pom poms and bells, setting up the sound system, and arranging tents at the field.
Post-Event Wrap-up Volunteers: Help dismantle the event by taking down the arch, cleaning up pom poms and bells, packing up the sound system, and removing tents from the field.
Your student(s) will be so proud to see you involved!
Please, remember you must already have an approved background check through Raptor to be a volunteer.
Thank you!
Dragon Dash Team

Non-Parent Volunteers
Please forward this information to anyone in your family that is volunteering with Findley but is not the parent/guardian of record.
If a grandparent is volunteering here is the information that will receive from the district. Getting signed up with ParentSquare will let them know of volunteer opportunities available to them.
Due to several challenges with the system, we’re moving our volunteer sign-ups to ParentSquare, our parent communication platform. We’ll still use the Raptor system for volunteer applications and background checks.
Community Members Who Are Approved Volunteers
We have added your information into our ParentSquare system as Community Volunteers/Guests.
If you wish to download the ParentSquare app to your phone, use one of these QR codes, or search for Beaverton ParentSquare in the App Store or Google Play. You want the one that has our Beaverton “B” logo.
On a desktop/laptop, go to https://www.parentsquare.com/signin
Click Forgot Password and enter the email that you used to apply to volunteer in Raptor.
Go through the steps to reset your password. Once you’re signed in:
On a desktop/laptop, look for the Sign-ups & RSVPs section on the right of the screen. Click View All. All of the sign-ups available to you will be listed. You will not see opportunities that were posted prior to your logging in this first time.
- On the Beaverton ParentSquare mobile app, click the three dots that say More on the bottom right of your screen. Then click Sign-ups & RSVPs, then click All Sign-ups. All of the sign-ups available to you will be listed.
Thank you for your patience as we work through these initial challenges.
Volunteer Sign in
Are you background checked and cleared to volunteer? Please be sure to watch this video to help smooth your checking into the building. Please note - official state ID helps the checkin go quicker.
Vision Screening coming 9/23
Vision screening will be conducted by the Oregon Lions Sight & Hearing Foundation, for all of our students on Monday 9/23/24. Students who wear glasses should wear their glasses for the screening. Families/Caregivers will only be notified if follow up care is recommended based on vision screening results.
Please notify Esperanza Pietrok at esperanza_pietrok@beaverton.k12.or.us if you prefer that your student not participate in this vision screening. Students who are absent during school screenings will be screened individually with a parent request.
Emergency Release Forms
At back to school night, we asked each family to complete the Emergency Release form that is linked below. We still have a few outstanding and really want to get them collected. This form will be used if we have a sudden release and will be especially useful if we have a snow storm that keeps our buses from running. This form is separate from what you completed during online verification.
Thank you for your assistance in getting this completed.

OBOB Team registration is now open on the website. 3rd - 4th & 5th graders may register as a team to compete with other teams starting in January. See our website for details. Registration ends November 8.

Arrival Map
Dismissal Map
There are 4 student dismissal locations:
Common Ground (After School Care) - Students go to the cafeteria.
Car Pick Up - K-5 students are dismissed/escorted (K-1) to the lower parking lot via the playground. All car pick up students are asked to line up (siblings can stand together) and wait for their name to be called.
Walkers - K are walked to the Little Library doors and 1st graders to the flagpole. Grades 2-5 should meet parents at the flagpole or walk home per parent permission..
Bus - K-1 students are walked to the bus by Dragon Riders and 2-5 are dismissed from class when their bus arrives.
Cars - Use Lower Parking Lot Only
Parents/guardians who drop off and/or pick up students must use the lower parking lot whose entrance is located on Thompson Road. (The upper parking lot is reserved for buses only from 8:00-8:20am and 2:40-3:00pm.)
Caregivers must observe the following:
● Caregivers must stay in their vehicle at all times unless parked in a designated parking spot.
● Children must exit or enter their vehicles from the passenger side (staff will be available to help students).
● Caregivers should always stay in the right lane next to the concrete walk areas when students are getting in or out of the vehicle, and only use the pull out lane when their children have departed or arrived.
● Caregivers should pull forward as far as possible so more students can depart or be picked up.
● Do not pass other vehicles in the parking lot.
● Do not park in the gravel shoulder area next to the road that enters the parking lot.
**It is very helpful if parents can have their student’s names on a piece of paper on the dashboard so we know who you are picking up.
Following procedures and directions from staff ensure a smooth, safe arrival & dismissal.
All Volunteers Must Fill Out a NEW APPLICATION!
Keep Up-to-Date with the Thompson Road realignment project!
School Attendance Promotes Belonging!
Too many absences – excused or unexcused – can keep students from feeling a sense of belonging and ultimately succeeding in school. Just two missed days per month can really knock students off track.
Please help your child prioritize attendance this year. Need help? Reach out to your teacher, school counselor or principal to work on solutions together.
