Celebrating Student Writing Excellence
Fourth-graders Helen Zhang and Vihaan Mehrotra along with fifth grader Jonah Kim each received notable recognition for their writing prowess.
Vihaan wrote a book about his family called, "Brother Wars." Vihaan’s book was selected from among 2,500 submissions nationally for the Leap for Literacy competition.
“Vihaan's story, “Brother Wars,” was a stand-out, and a top choice among our entire Leap for Literacy team,” shared Sarah Hernandez, Leap for Literacy Editor-in-Chief. Vihaan was recognized by the organization last weekend. The organization published his book and promoted it on Amazon.
Helen placed first among 1,145 entries in the state of Illinois’ Letters About Literature competition for a letter she wrote to author Kelly Yang about the book, "Key Player." The contest asks participants to reflect on a book and describe how it changed their view of the world. Helen was recognized in the spring by Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias.
Jonah won the Letters About Literature top prize last year for the heart-felt letter he wrote to R.J. Palacio about her book, "Wonder." “It is extremely rare for a student from the same school to be selected two years in a row. In my 20 years working with this program, it has only happened one other time,” said Bonnie Matheis, Coordinator for Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias.

Public Notice for E-Learning
Lincolnshire-Prairie View District 103 will host a public hearing Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. regarding an E-learning plan for students on days school is closed on a temporary basis due to emergencies, such as dangerous snowstorms, power outages, or water breaks.
The purpose of this hearing will be to seek input concerning the provision of the School Code allowing for E-Learning days in lieu of closing schools and using an emergency make-up day as amended by Public Act 101-0012. Section 5/10-20.56 of the School Code contains the minimum requirements to ensure staff and student participation in an E-Learning day, which will allow the day to be counted as a day of student attendance. A copy of the plan will be available on the district website on the Board of Education Agenda and Minutes page on Friday, June 14, 2024.
The District 103 school board meeting will start immediately after the hearing has concluded at the District Office located at 111 Barclay Blvd., Lincolnshire, IL 60069. The school board is to vote on the E-Learning plan after the public hearing.
