Field Flash
December 20, 2024
Dear Field Parents and Guardians,
We hope that you enjoyed our Holiday Sing this week. We are so proud of all our students! They did an excellent job sharing their songs with you all. Special thank you and congratulations to our music teachers, Mrs. Kapustka and Ms. Kwasny!
We hope you and your family enjoy a relaxing winter break. As a reminder, we are back in school on Monday, January 6th, and we look forward to seeing students for our first day of school in 2025!
Now that cold weather is here, please be sure that your children bring the appropriate winter weather gear (snow pants, boots, warm coats, etc), as we do go outside for recess most days. Our weather guidelines for the District are pictured below in this newsletter. Please be sure these items are labeled with your child's name.
A few reminders:
- Please review my Arrival & Dismissal Safety email from December 5th. Please help us be good neighbors!
- Winter has arrived - please send your child(ren) to school with winter weather gear.
- Please remember that there is no supervision before or after school on the playground or blacktop. Children should be supervised by a grown-up.
- Please be sure you call the main office as early in the day as possible if your child is not taking the bus home.
One of our social workers, Ms. Vanessa Kaegi, shared these two great resources for families: Do Something Joyful & Fill Up Your Kid's Cup. We hope you find these resources helpful!
Sincerely,
Dr. Courtney Goodman

Yearbook Custom Cover Contest
The yearbook team is looking for Field Students to submit a custom cover for 2024-2025 yearbook.
Please encourage your kids to enter our contest.
This year’s theme is Draw Yourself as Future Star(s)! They can draw just themselves or themselves with their friends as whatever the star(s) they will be when they grow up – be it teachers, doctors, athletes, or astronauts.
Here are just a few rules:
1. Drawing must be vertical on standard 8.5x11” paper.
2. Name of the student shouldn’t be on the drawing itself.
3. Please add Field School 2024-2025 on the actual drawing.
4. Please put student’s name, grade level, and teacher’s name on the back of the drawing.
There are 3 ways to submit:
1. Give it to your child's teacher to turn in
2. Drop it off in the main office
3. Email it to fieldschoolyearbook@gmail.com (If emailing, please scan it at high resolution and include student’s name, grade level, and teacher in your email)
Deadline for submissions is January 15th, 2025
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out via yearbook email.
Pizza Day Ordering - January-May
Sales are open for January - May! Please log in to your account on fieldpto.org, then go to “My Account,” then “My Forms.” Sales will be open through Friday, December 20.
Pizza Day volunteer sign-ups are also open. We are instituting a new policy:
Please do not sign up more than ONCE when initially signing up to give everyone a chance to volunteer. If you sign up for more than once per student we will delete sign ups. If spots are open after one week of the sign up being open then you may sign up for more spots. We have had many parents who were not able to volunteer last semester because there were no available days/times.

Rainbows Student Peer Groups
Rainbows for All Children provides peer groups for kids in 1st - 8th grade. These groups provide a safe space for them to share their experiences associated with loss of a loved one and/or a changing family dynamic due to divorce, deployment, etc. Trained facilitators help encourage communication while identifying, navigating and discussing feelings amongst the group. Our next session begins on Tuesday, January 14th, 2025. This free program meets every Tuesday, from 5:30 - 6:30 pm, at the Park Ridge Community Church.
Please use this Google Form link to register your child/children and/or to be added to our communications list. Any general questions or interest in volunteering to become a facilitator, please contact rainbows64@att.net . For more general info please visit https://rainbows.org/

PTO Volleyball for 4th and 5th Graders
The District 64 Volleyball League is just around the corner! It is open to all 4th and 5th grade Field students, and it is coached by parent volunteers. The season consists of practices/games on weeknights from 2/10-4/10. Registration will open in January - stay tuned for more details.
A Note from the Green Team
The Field Green Team would like to offer some tips for a Greener Holiday Season.
- Recycle your old holiday lights at the Public Works Service Center, 400 Busse Highway, now through March 7th from 7 AM to 3 PM.
- Niles & Park Ridge both provide Christmas tree curbside pickup. Park Ridge picks up the week of January 5th on your regular garbage day. Niles picks up through January. Trees over 6 feet must be cut in two. All residents should place their trees on the parkway next to the curb the night before their regular garbage collection day.
- Only plain cards and wrapping paper can be recycled (no glitter, fluff, ribbon, 3-D decorations, or batteries in musical cards). Flatten paper and cardboard boxes so they fit inside your cart with the lid closed. Materials need to stay dry.
- Give the gift of composting. Park Ridge residents have a discounted plan with Collective Resource Compost.
- Donate your used clothes and shoes at any of the district's Helping Hands donation bins located at all schools. The school keeps a portion of the proceeds and items that are too worn out to be used are recycled into filling for other items.
- Check out this link for other ideas on how to give green gifts and reduce your holiday waste.
Dates to Remember!
- Weeks of December 23rd and 30th: Winter Break
- Monday, January 6th: Welcome Back!
See what’s going on in our community!
From the library to the park district, our communities of Park Ridge-Niles have lots to offer, even virtually. For information on all the latest happenings, be sure to check the Community Info & Events webpage.
