Great Things Are Happening in October
Dear CCPS Families,
As we embrace the vibrant month of October, I want to celebrate some exciting events and achievements within our school community.
First, we are proud to share that our Teacher of the Year representative was recognized among the top seven educators from 24 counties at the Maryland State Teacher of the Year Gala on October 4. This remarkable honor highlights the dedication and excellence of our educators. Please join me in congratulating our representative, Ms. Brittany Rigdon, for this outstanding accomplishment.
Additionally, October is filled with school spirit as we celebrate homecoming events. Seeing our students and families come together to support our teams and foster a sense of community has been wonderful. We look forward to more engaging activities as the month unfolds.
On October 2, we hosted a highly successful College and Career Day featuring 89 colleges and organizations. This event, which was well-received by our students, provided them with valuable insights and opportunities to explore their future paths and reassured us about their bright future. We are proud to support our students as they consider their next steps.
Next Wednesday, we will observe Unity Day, dedicated to fighting bullying. I strongly encourage everyone to wear orange in support of this vital cause. By doing so, we can make a powerful statement and promote kindness and inclusivity within our schools.
Lastly, throughout October, our schools will collect donations for breast cancer research. We will culminate our efforts with Pink Out Day on Friday, October 25. I encourage everyone to participate and show their support for this vital cause.
Thank you for your continued support and engagement in our school community.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey A. Lawson, Ed.D.

Hispanic Heritage Festival
On October 3, the Elkton High School Community had the opportunity to celebrate our 6th Annual Hispanic Heritage Festival. We would like to thank the 175+ students, families, friends, district leadership and school board members who attended. The event was a lovely celebration of cultural music, crafts, food and community partnerships.

Important Information
Unity Day - Wednesday, October 16
October was first declared as National Bullying Prevention Month in 2006. Since then, October has been a time to acknowledge that bullying has devastating effects on children and families such as school avoidance, loss of self-esteem, increased anxiety, and depression. In order to promote kindness, acceptance, and inclusion, CCPS will be asking our staff and students to wear the color orange on Wednesday, October 16 to send a visible message that no child should ever experience bullying.
In addition, CCPS will be having an Anti-Bullying Poster Contest with the slogan, "All In: United Against Bullying". All submissions are due to school counselors by November 8.
