It was an exciting final week of the school year!

We congratulate our outgoing 6th grade class and will miss them. We wish them great things as they take their next steps forward!

This week, we also received the news that Nohl Canyon is now a four-time winner of the OUSD Attendance trophy for the month of May. Great work Roadrunners!

It was touching to welcome back this year's graduating Seniors (picture below) from our fellow OUSD schools as well as our local privates. We wish them the best in their future endeavors.

As we head to summer, I want to wish all Nohl Canyon families a wonderful summer filled with adventure, wonder, and relaxation. Whether your travels take you to far away places or you will be enjoying all the things that make many folks want to call Orange County home, I hope this summer fills you with time spent with family and friends, lots of good food, and some fun adventures.

The Nohl Canyon office will be open one more week through June 14th and will then close through July 29th. Registration and picture day will take place August 20th. The first day of school will be August 21st. We look forward to seeing all Roadrunners soon.

UPDATE:

We had a huge community response for the SCC’s Summer College for Kids program. OUSD paid classes have reached their capacity and so the registration site is now closed.

Parents can still register their students for fee-based classes. The registration site for this is www.sac.edu/cms.

Parents looking to switch the classes that they already registered for or have questions, they can contact SCC directly at scccs@sccollege.edu or 714-628-4960.

• CARES Summer Camp- Parent Paid Option ($220.00 per week) Registration begins Monday, April 22, 2024 @ 9:00am, for current enrolled families, then outside registration will take place the following week Monday, April 29, 2024. • Locations: Chapman Hills, Crescent OPK, Fletcher, and McPherson. Hours- 7:00am to 6:00pm.
• Incoming TK & K CARES Camp- Parent Paid Option ($220.00 per week) Registration begins Monday, April 22, 2024 @ 9:00am.
• Age-appropriate activities and field trips.
• Locations: Crescent OPK Room 306 & Child Development Center, Room P
• Summer Enrichment Program- Registration begins Monday, May 6, 2024 @ 9:00am Hosted by Strategic Kids and enrichment partners; Discovery Cube, Active Learning, Afterschool Music Academy and We Break Dance.
• Location Options: Canyon Rim, Linda Vista, Olive, and Palmyra. Hours- 7:00am to 4:00pm.

California Kids Investment and Development Savings Program (CalKIDS), launched in 2022, aims to prepare California children for post-secondary education expenses financially. Eligible low-income public school students in grades 1-12 and all California newborns, regardless of income, automatically receive funded savings accounts through CalKIDS. Students within our District may be eligible to access these funds upon enrollment in higher education institutions, utilizing them for tuition, fees, books, supplies, and other educational expenses. Low-income California public school students identified by the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) were automatically enrolled in CalKIDS if registered in grades 1-12 during the 2021-22 school year or in 1st grade during the 2022-23 school year.

Nohl Canyon is beginning to see more students carrying their own cell phones. Please discuss with your child the guidelines for cell phones/communication devices (watches) while at school:

1) NO CELL from BELL to BELL - cell phones need to be turned OFF and stored in students backpack from first bell to dismissal bell.

2) Students who need to contact parents/guardians are expected to come to the front office to make the phone call.

3) Students who do not follow the guidelines:

1st occurrence: warning - expected to place phone back in backpack

2nd occurrence: cell phone confiscated - Parent Pick-up in office

OUSD Open Enrollment:

The Online “Open Enrollment” period began on Monday, January 15, 2024, and ends at 4:00PM on Monday, January 29, 2024. Lotteries have been held. Open Enrollment is now reopened.

*Open Enrollment is the process for families to apply to attend a school not in their residential boundaries. Current Nohl Canyon Open Enrollment students still need to complete the process each school year.

For Nohl Canyon resident families, TK / Kindergarten enrollment for the 2023-2024 school year begins on Wednesday, January 17th.

Nohl Canyon uses a "Staggered" Start and dismissal to provide some relief with traffic. Supervision in front of school begins at 7:40 am. After dismissal, supervision ends at 2:40 pm. All students need to be picked up by 2:40 pm.

2023-2024 Bell Schedule

If you are interested in helping with our student drop-off or pick-up, we always welcome volunteers. Work as many or as few days as you are able, morning and/or afternoon. All helpers welcome! Stop by and talk with us in the morning or afternoon or let our Front office staff know if you are interested.

Thank you for making our parking lot procedures during drop-off and pick-up a safe and efficient machine. We serve a large number of vehicles in short period of time.

Thank you for your continued help with a few critical items:

• Please remember our Lower lot is Staff Only Parking. The lower entrance on Nohl Canyon RD is ENTRANCE ONLY in the Afternoon for Middle Lane traffic going to park in the FAR lot. Two-way use of this entrance presents a significant hazard to entering cars and pedestrian traffic.
• Please be kind to our parking lot volunteers. They make the whole thing work.
• Please ask your kiddos to walk when in front of school. Running children in the pick up area presents several hazards. Safety is our first priority.
• Trinity School Parking Lot is CLOSED for drop-off and pick-up parking.

• Parents, with respect to Trinity Pre-School and their families, we are not allowing Nohl Canyon families to park in the Trinity parking lot. Please follow this guideline and support us in keeping a positive community relationship with Trinity School. Trinity will often allow us to use their lot for special events but should not be used for drop-off or pick-up.
• Please remain clear of the Trinity lawn areas. Trinity lawns should not be used for student waiting for drop-off or pick-up. Students should always be picked up from our school site. If students are still here after 2:40pm, we bring them behind our school gates into our QUAD area for safety until parent pick-up. Please do not have your students wait at the Trinity site for pick-up.
• Please be sure to use crosswalks when crossing all major roads. Students being dropped off on Nohl Canyon Rd. and then proceeding across the street, presents a significant hazard to those students.
• Keep in mind, the Nohl Canyon Rd. entrance to our parking area is only to be used during afternoon pick-up and is limited to Middle Lane traffic that is pulling all the way through the lot to park in the back school lot.

Bottoms – Uniform bottoms are to be any type (jeans and leggings included) of solid bottoms with no holes, stripes, or patterns. Colors are Black, Blue, Khaki, uniform plaid.

As Fall is upon us, and the seasons are changing, please take a moment to review the Nohl Canyon Uniform Policy:

Nohl Canyon has a student uniform policy that is in alignment with the districts uniform policy. Schools whose students wear uniforms have indicated that a uniform policy is a creative and positive way to increase student achievement and decreases student behavioral problems. Based upon the interest of Nohl Canyon parents and staff, our school will continue with our Student Uniform Policy.
