Let's Go Back To The Basics
Copper Hill Curriculum Corner - April 2024
The 3 R's - Reading, Writing and Arithmetic
Understanding why the 3 R's are so crucial for your child's development is like recognizing the keys to unlocking their future success.
Basic Building Blocks: The 3 R's (reading, writing, and math) are like the ABCs of learning. They form the foundation for success in school and beyond.
Everyday Skills: These skills aren't just for school—they're crucial for everyday life. They help kids understand instructions, express themselves clearly, and manage money later on.
Thinking Skills: Mastering the 3 R's helps kids think more clearly and solve problems better. Reading teaches them to understand and analyze information, writing helps them organize their thoughts, and math teaches logical thinking.
Better Communication: When kids are good at the 3 R's, they're better at communicating. This is important for doing well in school, making friends, and succeeding in jobs later on.
Important for the Future: These skills aren't just for now—they set kids up for success in the future. Whether they're going to college or starting a career, strong skills in reading, writing, and math open up more opportunities.
You Make a Difference: As a parent, you play a big role in helping your child develop these skills. By reading with them, encouraging writing, and practicing math together, you're setting them up for success.
Healthy Habits at Home
Here are some helpful tips to support your child with finding success in and out of school.
- Create formal study time at home (i.e. designated space and time)
- Develop a routine that includes time to eat, sleep, play, work, study and read
- Identify a quiet space to study and read
- Share family stories and traditions; they give a sense of meaning and belonging
- Set time for family fun (i.e. game nights, movie night, outdoor experiences)
