Weekly Update
Hello Foster's Finest!
There is much to be excited about in the coming weeks ahead. Once the permits are issued, the project will begin. When it is about to start, I will communicate that information out to the community. We are putting up some barriers to provide a further safety measure for our recesses times when we move to the front of the school. Katie St. Clair (facilities director) and SGT McGuillicuddy(School Resource Officer) have been outstanding at supporting the work needed for us to have outdoor recess in the coming weeks. I appreciate their guidance as we prepare for the coming weeks.
Much of the work that we do as educators is around the social emotional development of our students. Our staff is here not only teaching the academics, but teaching students the interpersonal skills that will support them through their lives. We complete yearly screening of our students to identify students who may be in need of further instruction in these areas. Heather Rodriguez, the Director of School Counseling has provided us with an informational letter about the screening and how it is used. Please take a moment to read this attachment as it contains important information not only about the screening, but information about opting out of the screening. With the COVID shutdowns and the impact on the development of social emotional skills, this work is more important than ever before.
Our kindness club needs your help with their December project! This month, our Kindness Club project is one that will be done from home, which means that everyone in the Foster community can participate! We will be making no-sew blankets for the local organization Annie's Kindness Blankets. Please check out the following link to the project flyer for more information on how you can participate: CLICK HERE What an incredible opportunity to share some kindness to those who may need it!
There are numerous wonderful events for our school before the winter break. We have the Holly Fair, the Foster School Concert, and Spirit Week. Our student council is sponsoring a grade level bulletin board themed contest which I am very excited to see. Everything is a first here for me this year, so these activities are something I am truly looking forward to.
Have a great weekend!

CAPC Mtg December 7th at 7pm on Zoom: The Town of Hingham's Climate Action Planning Committee (CAPC) has been working hard crafting a plan to meet Hingham's approved goal of net zero carbon emissions by 2040. What roles will our schools play? Electric school buses? Public charging stations at the schools? Solar arrays on our school buildings? The CAPC invites all residents to attend its third public input session to provide feedback on the near final outline of the Climate Action Plan. We need citizen input as we consider priorities and potential warrant articles.
