Congrats to 6th Grade Honor Band students

Kudos to our 6th grade band students for a great concert last Tuesday in Sioux City. The honor band directors were very impressed with how well all the kids were prepared and how quickly they fixed any problems in the rehearsal.

Our 7th and 8th grade students will have a bit more time to prepare as their solo festival has been moved from Feb. 20 to Mar. 13. The kids will continue working with Mrs. Kaldahl on Thursdays to prepare their pieces.

Practice Tip: Do your "Excellerators" in the back of the book. They are a great way to warm up.

Our 6th grade IGLLS band students joined nine other Spencer public school students and took part in this year's Strong Foundations 6th Grade Honor Band on January 28 at North High School in Sioux City. In addition to teaching private music lessons at IGLLS, I am a bus driver for the Spencer Schools, serve as chair of the Spencer ADA Council, direct the choir at Christ the King Lutheran and am a part-time janitor at Spencer Middle School. In my free time I enjoy reading, walking, biking, cooking and keeping up with my siblings Sue in Loveland, CO and David in Forest City.

My parents were both music educators. My brother and sister-in-law are band directors in Forest City, IA. My grandfathers were both ministers in the Presbyterian and Methodist churches.

Music has always been a part of my life and its fun to share this gift with our young people at IGLLS so they can add their praises to our Loving Lord in song.
