19th annual Peoplehood Parade
"Give Us Our Roses: Honoring Trans Lives"
ABOUT PEOPLEHOOD
Peoplehood is a parade that celebrates and lifts up PEOPLE - particularly those living in and/or working at the forefront front of anti-discrimination and anti-oppression work. Organizations, activists, families, and neighbors join together to represent who they are and what they stand for parading with art they've made, as themselves, or joining the art of other folks.
This year Spiral Q is partnering with Trans March Philly - creating artwork that honors and centers Trans Lives. These are activities to connect to the parade art at the front of the parade in REMEMBERENCE, RESISTANCE, RESILIENCE parade sections.

PARADE ART IDEAS FOR YOU AND YOUR GROUP
ROSE CROWNS
How to:
There are many ways to make a flower crown, (with real flowers, with plastic flowers, with tissue paper, and origami paper). Here is one of the ways we did it. (see links for how to videos).
Tie Dye Shirts or Color coordinated outfits
How to:
Mutiples!
Multiples are flat shapes that often represent objects, people, animals, symbols,
etc. Like their name suggests, they are made in larger quantities and visually
strengthen the message of a parade or demonstration. Spiral Q and Trans March are large fists the Trans March and Peoplehood - you can come up with your own meaningful shape to represent your group!
HOW TO MAKE MULTIPLES
Materials: Cardboard; Utility knife; Cutting surface; Pencil; Latex or acrylic
paint; Brushes; Embellishments, if you like.
- On large pieces of cardboard, trace or draw your desired shapes.
- Using a utility knife, cut out your shapes.
- Paint your multiples as you like. They should be clear representations of what you intend to depict and easily recognizable from a distance. Feel free to embellish your multiples with fabric, glitter, feathers, string— anything you can imagine. However, make sure it remains durable, steady and identifiable.
- If you like, you can add big bold messaging.
- Add a pole to carry or carry with your hands.
