Superintendent's Update - 8.26.2022
Dear CPS Community,
I hope you had a wonderful summer and time to enjoy the incredible weather we encountered these past two months. I am looking forward to welcoming students and families back to school for the 2022/23 school year and am especially excited to welcome our new kindergarten and pre-school students as they begin their school careers with us! Our facilities, administrative, and teaching staff have worked hard to prepare our buildings and classrooms to be ready to greet students upon their arrival next week. As I toured the schools and spoke with different staff members preparing their classrooms, everyone is excited to start the year off with your children. As a reminder, students in grades 1 – 9 return to school on Tuesday, August 30th. All students K – 12 will attend school on Wednesday, August 31st and Thursday, September 1st. There is no school for all students on Friday, September 3rd. School will resume on Tuesday, September 6th after the Labor Day weekend. If you have not done so already and wish for your child(ren) to ride the big yellow school bus to/from school, please be sure you have registered for the bus. Information on how to register is provided below.
I am pleased to announce that we are again back to in-person learning. Our COVID protocols will be the same as they were at the close of last year. As a district, we are mask optional. Individuals who elect to wear masks regularly or occasionally will be supported in their choice. If a student tests positive for COVID, regardless of COVID vaccination status, they must quarantine (stay out of school) for five days from either symptom onset or a positive test result (if asymptomatic). Please continue to notify and work with our school nursing staff to identify required quarantine and return-to-school dates. As we witnessed from experience over the past two years, COVID protocols are amended and updated regularly. Please refer to the CPS Health Services website for current COVID protocols. We will not be implementing COVID pool testing, at-home test kits, test-and-stay, or identifying close contacts of COVID-positive individuals this year. Changes in protocols will be communicated with families throughout the year.
Again, welcome back to school. I will begin regular communications as the school year begins. In the meantime, please take time to review news from the summer and enjoy pictures of activities from the past few weeks leading up to the start of school. Please enjoy your weekend, we are going to have a great 2022/23 school year in Chelmsford!
Yours truly,
Jay Lang, Ed.D.
