Why Read Over the Summer?
Summer slide is the tendency for students to lose some of the achievement gains they made during the previous school year over the summer months. Research shows that summer and out-of-school-time programs can have positive effects on gains in reading achievement mitigating summer learning loss.

R U L E S
- Contestant must be a DCSD student enrolled at MESA* or staff member
- One entry per person. No purchase necessary to win. Entry must be received by August 12, 2024
- Required - minimum of 500 minutes (20 mins per day) between May 24 and August 12, 2024 to win prizes from the DLMC (DLMC prizes are awarded by drawing of all eligible entries) and to enter a chance to win the Grand Prize from Mesa.
- Eligible for prizes from the DLMC and Mesa (you can win multiple prizes- see Mesa prize)
*Any DCSD student can participate and win prizes from the DLMC, only Mesa students can win additional prizes from Mesa.

A great place to borrow all kinds of reading materials. The public library also hosts it's own Summer Reading program that you can do in conjunction to our reading program - twice the prizes! The school with the most participants can win $500 for their library! Click HERE for more information.
Denver Dumb Friends League - Tales for Tails
DFL’s one-hour program (counts as 1 hour of reading time on log) provides kids in 1st through 12th grades an educational, interactive experience reading to equines at the Harmony Equine Center, cats at the Leslie A. Malone Center, and dogs at the Buddy Center. Each session includes lessons on animal safety, a tour, and time to practice their reading skills. More information HERE!
