K-12 Idle-Free Schools Poster Contest
To support schools with their Idling Reduction Campaign, the District's Environmental & Conservation Services (ECS) Department is partnering with local municipalities to host the K-12 Idle-Free Schools Poster Contest. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, idling vehicles contribute to air pollution and emit air toxins, which are pollutants known or suspected to cause cancer or other serious health effects.
The posters will be judged by the District's Sustainability Advisory Committee and ECS staff. The winning poster(s) will be printed and distributed to schools District-wide during the 2024-2025 school year. We encourage posters that convey messages such as:
Our School Is Idle-Free
Idle-Free School Zone: Kids at Work!
Breathing in progress: Stop your engine when you’re not moving
Stop a block away, park, and walk: Make our school safe!
Kids Zone: No idling, please
Turn off your engine: keep our air clean
Not moving? Turn it off.
All posters need to be original works created by the individual who is submitting the image. The deadline to submit is May 9. *Students must be logged into their school email address to submit this form.

Summer Opportunities
Take a look at these summer dual enrollment opportunities; H2O to Go! Connections and Climate Resilience Education and Action for Dedicated Youth (Climate READY). We've prepared a slideshow and a recorded video for students that are interested in more information beyond our program fliers. I've attached both fliers, a pdf of our slideshow, and a link to the video. The deadline for applications is Friday, March 15. However, we've applied for an extension of at least one more week and we'll be in touch with the school district if the request is successful.
In addition, please let us know if you have the time and space for one of us to visit your school, classroom, or club! We'd be more than happy to visit and meet your students and tell them about our programs in person.
Please direct any questions to me (wellmanr@fau.edu; 561 297 6605) or to Greg Goebel (ggoebel@fau.edu; 561 297 6606). One of us will be available during the week of March 11-15 to make a personal visit, just let us know when is best for you! Thank you for your time!

Food Finder
Hunger is a concern for many of our families in Palm Beach County. The United Way of Palm Beach County has developed a Food Finder map to assist families with finding food pantries and distribution locations. The Palm Beach County Food Finder Map now includes "Holiday Meal" events for food and toy giveaways in December. This list contains information provided by 211 and the Hunger Relief network. The website is updated regularly with new information.
The FindHelp.org website has various resources, including food, housing, and health-related locations.
