A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Thomson Elementary Families,
As we step into the vibrant month of March, I extend a warm welcome to each and every one of you. March brings with it a sense of renewal and excitement as we transition further into the school year.
At Thomson Elementary, we are thrilled to embark on another month filled with learning, growth, and memorable experiences for our students. March is not only a time for blooming flowers and warmer weather, but it's also an exciting opportunity to celebrate March is Reading Month! Throughout the month, we'll be engaging in various activities and events to foster a love for reading and literacy among our students. From captivating stories to imaginative adventures, let's make March a month of exploration and discovery through the magic of reading. Together, we can make March a month of success, achievement, and joy for our Thomson Elementary community.

Kindergarten Round-Up Appointments πβοΈ
Can you believe that it is already time to start thinking about next year?! We will begin taking appointments for Kindergarten Round-Up on Wednesday, February 28th. If you have a child or know someone with a child who will be in Kindergarten next year, please be sure to call our Thomson office and make an appointment at (810) 591-0911.
Kindergarten Round-Up for all Davison Elementary Buildings will take place at Thomson Elementary April 15th - 19th.
If you have younger children at home we wanted to make you aware that we are now starting the waiting list for Early-5's. Our Early 5's program is for children that will turn 5 between June 15th and December 1st. This is an excellent program to prepare young children for kindergarten. It is a full day program that focuses on kindergarten readiness. To add your child to the wait list please call the Thomson Elementary office at (810) 591-0911.
As a note, our current DK/Early 5 students do not need to make an appointment as your child(ren) are already completely enrolled as Davison students. As always, please do not hesitate to contact the office if you have any questions.
Parent Pick-Up Change!
We wanted to inform you of a temporary change in our parent pick-up routine due to Kindergarten Round-Up, taking place from April 12th to April 19th. During this period, there will be increased traffic and activity around the school premises, necessitating adjustments to ensure everyone's safety. We kindly ask for your cooperation and patience during this time. Please anticipate potential delays and plan accordingly when picking up your children. Our priority remains the safety and well-being of all students, and we appreciate your understanding as we navigate through this event. Thank you for your continued support.

πππ Birthday Celebrations!! πππ
Just a friendly reminder!
As part of our ongoing efforts to promote healthy and inclusive celebrations, we kindly request that non-edible items be considered for birthday celebrations in the classroom.
Opting for non-food items helps accommodate various dietary preferences and ensures the well-being of all our students. Popular alternatives include small stationery items, bookmarks, or classroom supplies.
We appreciate your understanding and support in fostering a positive and inclusive environment for all our students.

Fun to Be Fit! β½ππ
Spring is in the air! As we venture into the month of March it is important to dress in layers for gym class. The students will participate in St. Patrick's Day themed games but also should be able to get some outside exercise as well. I encourage all students to have some sort of sweatshirt and a coat since weather is often unpredictable. As we progress in the month, the students will revisit sports that have already been taught in the fall for practice and progression. I look forward to the next few weeks and continuing helping with your child's passion for movement!

STEM π₯οΈ
Hello Thomson Families,
This month in STEM class we are going to read a fun story called βHow to Catch a Leprechaunβ, and discuss all of the different ways the children try to trap and catch the leprechaun. The boys and girls will get to use their creativity and engineering skills to design a hiding spot for their βgoldβ using our KEVA plank blocks. KEVA planks are wooden building blocks we use in STEM class for many activities and the students love to build with these!
Happy Engineering!

Attendance, Tardiness and Leaving Early Matters!
While students should be kept home when they are ill, being at school on-time and staying until dismissal matters. When students are absent, they miss valuable learning time which can be a negative impact on learning. Likewise, arriving late or leaving early, even 5 to 15 minutes, can throw off a child's day. When children walk in late, they can become stressed or experience anxiety, trying to catch up with the start of the day.
Additionally, when children leave early, they often miss the end of the day's closure. Please be mindful that every minute matters and we must work to make the most of every minute!
If your child is going to be absent please don't forget to call the attendance line @ 810-591-0916. This ensures that your student gets marked correctly for the day.
