A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Welcome Back! We have had an excellent first week back to school. Students have been working hard to learn all of the new routines and procedures of school - especially our kindergartners. This week, we rolled out our new PBIS (positive behavior intervention support) system. Students who demonstrate being responsible, respectful, safe, and kind will earn blue ANCHOR tickets which they can add to our school ticket jar. Each morning, we will give four anchor shout outs to students whose names are drawn out of the ticket jar. When students earn a certain amount of tickets in the jar, the entire school will get a special surprise. This might look like a special treat or a special activity. On Thursday, we had a special assembly to learn about our new school wide reward system, and to play a couple of team challenge games. This was our first opportunity this year to come together as a school. The students were excellent listeners and participants.
Thank you to parents, family members, and guardians for your patience as we try to improve our drop off and dismissal procedures. We are hoping our new system might help the line move a little quicker.
We are so grateful for the support of our community and the wonderful students that adorn the hallways and classrooms of PES. As a school community, we feel so lucky to learn alongside them. Thank you for all that you do at home to support your learners.
Best regards,
Nina Willette, Principal
TIME FOR SCHOOL!
Preschool starts September 9th, 8:25AM-12PM. Late Start Wednesdays began September 4th (start time 9:25AM), and continue the rest of the school year. Great Start enrichment activities for K-5 begin September 11th, 8:15-9:15AM. Many thanks to the parent volunteers who make this possible!
Each Thursday, communication from our school and other community news will be sent home via a clear plastic folder. We hope you'll take a moment to read the school's newsletter, The Phippsburg Explorer's Log, which will be emailed and available on our website. The "Log" contains important news and information regarding school and community events.
School hours are 8:25 - 3:00; LSW 9:25-3:00.
Office hours are 7:30 - 3:30.
We ask that families make every effort to have their child(ren) arrive on time and attend school every day. If, for any reason, your child does not arrive at school on time, please accompany him/her to the front office.
Please be sure to call the school by 9:00AM, at 389-1514 x101, if your child is to be absent or late. You can call & leave a message (child's name, reason out, I.e., vacation, sick, personal day), even before anyone is at the school. If you don't call the school, a note is required upon student's return to excuse the missed time. Expect a follow-up call if your child is out sick.
OUTDOOR LEARNING FRIDAY REMINDER
Dear K-5 Parents/Guardians,
Please be sure your child/ren are dressed appropriately for outdoor learning Fridays, such as sturdy shoes, light jacket, etc. Thank you
STUDENT DENTAL CLINICS SEPTEMBER 26 & 27!
Save the dates! There will be PK-5 student dental clinics at PES on September 26 & 27, 2024. A paper copy of the Dental Consent Form went home in Thursday folders this week, along with the Flu Clinic Consent Form and vaccine info for the October 23rd morning clinic for students and staff.
A NOTE FROM THE NURSE
Welcome back to school! I hope you all had a healthy summer. It was great to see everyone this week. As a reminder, if your child requires medication to be administered during the school day, there is a form that needs to be completed by the doctor and signed by you. The form is available HERE and needs to be updated each school year. I'm happy to answer any questions regarding medication and/or your child's health. Please contact me at btainter@rsu1.org or you may reach me at (207) 389-1514 x108.

HAVE YOU COMPLETED THE ANNUAL UPDATE?
School has begun...have you completed the Annual Update? If not, please do so as soon as possible! Why is this important? The Annual Update replaces the paper packets that we used to send home on the first day of school. This is the time to verify your phone number, address and emergency contacts, and make updates if necessary. You will also complete permission forms, including field trips permission form (students can't go on September 17th if it isn't done), for the 2024-2025 school year.
Another important component of the Annual Update is the Alternate Economic Status form. This replaces the Free/Reduced lunch forms now that meals are free for all students. Completing this form helps the district qualify for grants and other funds to help support programs for our students.
If you recently registered a new student, you have already completed the annual update. No further action is required unless you need to update your information.
To get started, follow the steps in the Annual Update Guide. This process only takes a few minutes to complete. Thank you for taking care of this by Friday, September 6th.
If you need assistance, please contact Mrs. Doran, secretary, at 389-1514 or techsupport@rsu1.org.
NEWS FROM THE KITCHEN
Dear Parents/Guardians,
We are excited to announce that student meals are free to students again this school year, and the free and reduced meal application has been replaced by a question on the annual online update. Students who bring food from home are still able to have food items and milk at school. If you do not want your student to be offered additional items, please let us know. Please feel free to let us know of any special dietary concerns your child may have, and we'll be happy to work with you to ensure that he or she receives a healthy and safe meal!
