Our District Promise
"Every student in the Stanwood-Camano School District is empowered to learn in an inclusive setting and is prepared for the future of their choice"
Dear Elger Bay Families,
Welcome to a new school year at Elger Bay Elementary! My name is Liz Sánchez, and I am thrilled to introduce myself as your new principal. I am excited to join the Elger Bay community and work together to support the success and growth of our students.
I moved to Washington 10 years ago after returning from a Peace Corps Response assignment, where I had the privilege of working with communities abroad. Since then, I’ve served as an administrator in both Seattle Public Schools and Everett Public Schools. My journey in education began as a Special Education Bilingual Teacher with the New York Department of Education, where I developed a deep passion for creating inclusive, engaging learning environments.
On a personal note, I am the proud aunt of four nieces and one nephew, ranging in age from 7 to 22. Their curiosity and love of learning inspire me daily and fuel my commitment to providing every child with a high-quality education that encourages exploration, discovery, and reflection.
I am also the mom to a sweet Chihuahua mix named Tiny, whom I adopted last December. You might spot us exploring one of the many trails on our beautiful island or enjoying a walk by the beach. We love taking advantage of the outdoor activities that Camano and Stanwood offer, especially during the summer.
Family is very important to me, and I am excited to bring that sense of connection and community to our Elger Bay family of Explorers. I look forward to meeting you and your children at our upcoming “Meet the Principal Picnic” on August 27, 2024. We will have two opportunities for you to join: 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM and 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM. Please feel free to bring your favorite picnic meal and a comfy blanket to relax on as we get to know each other.
While our teachers won’t be available for this event, as they will be busy preparing their classrooms and activities to welcome our students on September 3rd (Kindergarten on September 6th), we will be hosting an Open House in October. Stay tuned for more details in our upcoming Family Newsletters.
Warm regards,
Liz Sánchez

Classroom Placement at Elger Bay
At Elger Bay, we do not accept specific classroom requests. Our goal is to create balanced classrooms that best address the academic and social needs of all students. We carefully consider each student's needs to ensure they receive the appropriate academic support and are placed in an environment that promotes their success. In some cases, students may be grouped together to enhance their learning experience when it is most beneficial.
Class placements will be shared with families via Skyward Messenger on Monday, August 26.
School Supplies
We want to remind families that the district provides school supplies to all elementary students for this upcoming school year. We do this to ensure equitable access to quality school supplies and relieve financial burdens for families.
The kits include the following items:
- Pocket Folders
- Spiral Notebooks
- Pencils, 12 pack
- Crayola Thick Broad Tip Washable Markers (K-2)
- Crayola Crayons, 24 pack (K-2)
- Crayola Colored Pencils (3-5)
- Highlighters
- Whiteboard Markers
- Pink Erasers
- Glue Sticks
- Scissors
- Ruler
- Headphones
Some families may have already purchased supplies and are unable to return them. If your child wants to donate the supplies to the classroom or bring in those items you are welcome to do so. However, bringing supplies is not necessary. Your child can also keep their supplies at home for special art projects or homework assignments.
FREE BREAKFAST & LUNCH FOR ALL
Elger Bay Elementary is one of three campuses in the district to have qualified under a new state law to offer free meals to all students in the 2024-25 school year.
Every school day, your child will have the option of having school-provided breakfast and lunch. You may, of course, continue to send a lunch from home if you wish.
House Bill 1238 requires school districts to provide meals at no cost to all students enrolled at campuses housing grades K-4, where 30% or more of students are eligible for free or reduced-price meals, based on building data gathered each October.
We still request families complete our free or reduced-price meals application because it impacts the continuation of this benefit in future years as well as other federal and state funding for the district. It also unlocks student and family benefits in the district and community, such as lower utility bills. Find information about meals, pricing, and more on our Food Services webpage.
