Preparing for the Transition to Middle School
A Conversation with Principal Nick Harris
This week, Green Sea Floyds Middle and High School Principal Nick Harris met with our fifth graders and their families to discuss the exciting transition to middle school. The event focused on easing the transition for students as they prepare for this important next step in their education.
Principal Harris shared the school’s core vision—Greatness, Service, Family—offering insights into how these values shape the school community. He emphasized the importance of striving for greatness in both academic and personal growth, serving others with kindness and respect, and fostering a supportive and connected family atmosphere within the school.
Students and families were encouraged to ask questions, and Principal Harris took time to address these, providing clarity on what to expect and how to make the most of the middle school experience.
As our fifth graders look forward to this new adventure, we’re confident they are equipped with the knowledge and support they need to thrive. We look forward to seeing them grow and succeed as they embark on this next chapter!
Fine Arts Day: A Creative Celebration of Talent and Fun!
On Friday, March 14, our school celebrated the annual Fine Arts Day, and it was a day filled with creativity, excitement, and inspiring performances! Students had the opportunity to explore and appreciate the arts in a variety of ways, making it a truly memorable event for all.
Students watched a high-energy demonstration from Shogun Karate, where students watched incredible martial arts moves in action. The demonstration showcased the discipline, strength, and skill required in karate, leaving everyone in awe!
Porkchop Productions took center stage with a schoolwide play that had everyone laughing and engaged. The performance was full of fun, laughter, and lessons, offering a great way for students to appreciate the art of theater and storytelling.
Students also had hands-on opportunities to get creative themselves! They participated in sidewalk chalk art, turning the school grounds into a colorful canvas. They also enjoyed coloring wooden animals, expressing their artistic side.
One of the highlights of the day was the performance by the Aynor Elementary School Steel Drum Band. The lively and vibrant music brought energy to the event, with students clapping along and enjoying the beautiful sounds of the steel drums.
It was a day of learning, laughter, and artistic expression, and our students had so much fun participating in all the activities. Fine Arts Day was a wonderful reminder of how the arts play an essential role in shaping creativity and joy in our students’ lives.

The Library Corner with Ms. Brown and Mrs. Mary
We had a great Read Across America Week! Students had the opportunity to help their House win a badge for our BINGO Reading Challenge. Congratulations to Altruismo for earning the badge! We heard great feedback from students and parents about this reading challenge and we are thrilled that our students and their families enjoyed these activities. We had great participation in our Book Character Parade on Friday. Many students dressed up as their favorite book characters and paraded around the center hallway of our school to show off their costumes.
In library, classes enjoyed listening to a Dr. Seuss book and playing Dr. Seuss-themed games. CD and Kindergarten students practiced letter and number recognition with matching games. First grade students played Dr. Seuss BINGO. Second through fifth grade students participated in stations with activities such as Go Fish, Plinko, Guess Who, puzzles, and a cup stacking STEM activity.
