Message from the Principal
**en Español**
MS Families:
We have reached the final week of the 2023 - 2024 school year. NMS Pride are the core values we have celebrated this school year in all that we as a staff and student body represent. I am personally thankful for all of the support, grace, and respect each of our families, students, and staff have exhibited this year.
This week we look forward to grade-level celebrations and the 8th grade Valleyfair field trip on Tuesday, June 6. We hope these celebrations will cap this year with laughter, togetherness, and fun! Here is the link to the final NMS Parent Update for 2023 - 2024. A few notes to finish out the year:
Yearbook Distribution: Students who have purchased a yearbook had their copy handed out during their 4th hour class on Wednesday, May 29th. A limited supply of remaining yearbooks will be for sale for $40.00 each. Cash or Check for the exact amount, please. These will be sold first come, first serve beginning at 7:30 am in the cafeteria on Thursday, May 30 through the remainder of the year or until they are sold out. Questions or concerns, please contact Cara Holland, Yearbook Coordinator.
Lockers clean out/ Lost and Found: Please connect with your student and remind them to check the lost and found by the media center and in the locker rooms. Any remaining items will be donated to charity on June 12. Students should also clean out their lockers before leaving school on June 6.
iPads: Students will be able to keep their iPad during the summer. Parents, if you choose not to have your student bring their iPad home for the summer, please have them turn their iPad in at the media center on June 6.
If your student is needing a replacement charger, brick or case, please visit our website: https://northfieldschools.revtrak.net/middle-school/school-fees-1/MS-iPad-Accessories/#/list to order and pay for these items as they are not covered by our iPad insurance. For assistance with school technology, please submit a support request with the link below or leave us a message: Submit a technology support ticket to our team or Call 507-645-1260.
NMS Health Office Medication pick up by June 6: Parents may pick up student medication, diabetic supplies, and any health items from the NMS Health office by 3:00 pm on Thursday, June 6. We are unable to send medication home with your student. Questions may be directed to Carol Reed, 507-663-0656. Please view important reminders from nurse Carol Reed here.
Current 6th grade students entering 7th grade - Immunization Records: This is the perfect time of year to update your students’ immunizations. Please provide a record of your student’s required childhood immunizations, or a legal exemption, by August 30, 2024, per Minnesota law. Families may contact your local clinic to schedule an appointment. Parents may review their student’s current health record on Family Access. To be sure your student’s health record is updated correctly, we recommend mailing, faxing, or dropping off a copy to the main office by August 30, 2024.
Required immunizations for students entering 7th grade:
Tdap (tetanus/diphtheria/pertussis)
Varicella vaccine - two shots
Meningococcal (meningitis)
For questions, please contact Maimouna Toure Keita, District Nursing Director, Carol Reed, NMS Nurse, or the Middle School Office at 507-663-0650.
Finally, best wishes to our eighth-grade students and families as they transition to high school. I want to wish everyone a relaxing and well deserved summer break. Enjoy your summer, be safe, and we look forward to seeing our 6th & 7th grade students back at NMS this Fall.
