Wiggin Street Parent Update
May 3, 2024
Better Together
Dear Wiggin Street Families,
We are in the final stretch of the school year! May activities are great ways to spend times with the friends and teachers that students have grown so closely to this year. Make sure to check the Upcoming Events so you don't miss anything. Also, next week is Teacher Appreciation Week which is a great opportunity for students to show love and appreciation to their teacher this year. See below about the flower sale for students to give to their teachers on Thursday.
Don't forget that Spring Flowers will be delivered on Monday on the playground. Pick up is between 3-6:00 and if you are available, we would appreciate volunteers.
We also have our K-2 Music Program coming up this Wednesday. The students can't wait to share the program that they have worked so hard to learn with the help of Mrs. Springer!
Have a great weekend,
Christy Grandstaff
Teacher Appreciation Week and Thursday's Flower Sale
Next week is Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week and FOWS has some special things planned for the staff including a Flower Sale on Thursday. Students will be allowed to purchase a carnation for their teacher on Thursday morning from 8:30am-9:00am and deliver to their teachers. Cost is $1 per flower. Cash only please! (This was a big hit last year, so we've ordered plenty of flowers!)
Thank you to all our Kenyon Volunteers this year!
Spring Flower delivery on Monday, May 6th!
Reminder Spring Flower pick-up is Monday, May 6th from 3:00-6:00pm on the school playground! We still need volunteers to help with the pick-up. Click on the link below for times needed.
Please click here to sign up if you able to help organize flowers for pick up on Monday. Thank you!
K-2 Music Program: This coming Wednesday, May 8th!
Instrument Tryout!
5th Grade students had the opportunity this week to try different instruments to see if they are interested in being in band or orchestra at the middle school.
Road Closure begins May 28th!
Village council held a special session on Monday April 22nd at 7pm to update the community regarding the construction at the intersection of Route 229 and Wiggin Street between May 28, 2024 and November. The construction will require road closure, and the session covered how travel will be impacted to and from the village. KnoxPages covered the session and published this article. More information can be found here on the Kenyon website.
Illustrated Books Shared
Mrs. Clippinger's class wrote and illustrated books based off of the series If you Give a Mouse a Cookie by Laura Numeroff. Then, they shared them with both kindergarten classes.
4th Quarter PBIS Event: Duct Tape and a Frozen Treat
Students are working this quarter for 50 PBIS points. The reward is a piece of Duct Tape to participate in Duct Taping me to a wall. While I'm hanging out, LOL, they will enjoy a frozen treat at recess. The culminating event will be when they come back in and pass through the hallway to see me all duct taped!
2024-25 Class Lists and Teacher Requests
A lot goes into creating class lists. Teachers meet with the next grade level as well as other staff that work closely with the grade level to make sure the classes are well balanced. Students' academic levels and Social Emotional needs are just a couple of ways that teachers look at to balance the classes. This continues into the summer as we are made aware of new enrollment. For these reasons, we feel it is important to wait till August to share the final lists.
If you have an educational reason for a teacher request, please submit it in writing via email to myself at cgrandstaff@mvcsd.us by May 1st, 2024. Also, if you know your child will not be attending next year, please let us know.
Community Bulletin Board
Check out our Community Bulletin Board on our website here. You can find flyers that the district receives for distribution from district boosters, PTOs, and nonprofit organizations.
