Dear Middle North families,
Today we completed the MAP Reading test successfully! Students will take the MAP Math test on Monday morning, first thing. Thank you for your support and flexibility. Please help by making sure their iPads are fully charged and they arrive to school on time! Students used the SOAR store for the first time this week, cashing in their Live School points!
Wishing you a wonderful fall weekend!

Snowflake
We are excited to announce that our annual Snowflake Day will take place on Thursday, September 26th! Snowflake Day is a special tradition in our school community, originally inspired by Operation Snowball, a national program that promotes leadership and positive decision-making in youth. This full-day event helps students build important social-emotional learning (SEL) skills while fostering connection and fun. The day will feature an all-school assembly with a motivational speaker, advisory SEL sessions, team time, and a special lunch. We look forward to a memorable and impactful day for all our students!
Save the Date! Students will also have the option to sign up for Snowflake Night, which will take place after school and in the evening on Friday, November 8th. This will be a continuation of Snowflake Day and will include a parent/guardian portion as well.
Hearing & Vision Screening
In the next two weeks, vision and hearing screening will be conducted during school hours:
Vision Screening: State-required screenings are for preschool, kindergarten, 2nd, and 8th graders, students with Individualized Education Plans, and new students to the District. School vision screenings aren't a replacement for full eye exams by a professional. If your child has had an eye exam within the past year and we have the report on file, they can skip the screening. Otherwise, it's required for students in the mandated groups.
Hearing Screening: All students in preschool, kindergarten, grade 1, grade 2, grade 3, and students with Individualized Education Plans will be screened annually for hearing.
No Phones
We strongly discourage sending a phone with your child to school. If it is absolutely necessary, please remind them to power it off and keep it locked in their locker. According to our Student Handbook, phones must be powered off and out of sight throughout the entire school day. They can be turned back on once school is over.
If students need to contact parents, office phones are available. Phones seen during the school day may be confiscated by a staff member and kept in the office until the end of the day. Repeat violations will require a parent to pick up the device. These expectations also apply to smartwatches.
Office Hours and Reporting Absences
School office hours are from 7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. If your child will be absent from school, please let us know by using the Report An Absence form on the website, calling the office at 847-990-4400 or by sending an email to msn-attend@hawthorn73.org. Please include any symptoms your child may be experiencing if they are absent because of an illness.
