New PTA Newsletter...

In case you missed the first edition before the winter break, the PTA is trying out a new newsletter program, S'More, the same tool used by Ms. Newsome, to share information with our school community. You can read the info in your email or click on it and view it in your browser where you can access links and other features. S'More offers a translation feature that allows for readers to change the text into their chosen language. We welcome feedback about how you like this new format for newsletters and if the translation feature is working for you. Please reach out to deweytigerspta@gmail.com.

    TRANSLATION INSTRUCTIONS:

    Step 1 - Click on the Translate button

    This button can be found at the top of the emailed newsletter.

    Step 2 - Access the Translation and ADA bar

    On the right side of the newsletter, you'll see the ADA and Translation features. To translate your newsletter, click on the Translate button and choose your desired language.

In-School Bookery

January Bookery will take place in-school at the Bookery book nook on the 2nd floor. Teachers sign up for a time slot for their class and students come and pick one free book. We are always accepting donations of new or gently used, elementary aged books so please drop them in the box in the front of the school or the main office. Sign up HERE to help set-up and take-down each month. Also, we will be organizing books after school on Wednesday, January 18th. Event Information

Dewey DOers Dewey Food Drive and Day of Service

The 5th Grade Dewey Doers are planning a food and supply drive to benefit the Dewey Food Pantry and the Evanston Community Fridge mutual aid food pantries. See HERE for information about this amazing local effort and specifics about donation parameters and locations.


Participate in this collective effort to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by serving our greater community together! You can bring items to The Dewey Doers at Door 4 on Monday, January 16th between 10am-12noon where they will be set-up to collect, sort and box items for distribution. Can't make it Monday? Non-Perishable donations can be dropped in the Dewey main office anytime through the end of school this Friday.


Have more time to give? We need 4 volunteers to come at 11:45 and help bring food to each of the 4 Fridges. Please reach out to hncrowley@hotmail.com if you can offer your time and a vehicle.


Items of specific need:

  • Milk
  • Eggs
  • Bread
  • Fresh Fruit/Vegetables
  • Canned Fruit/Vegetables
  • Pasta
  • Rice
  • Canned Fish

  • Canned Soups and Stews
  • Other non-food personal and household items are also welcome such as dish soap, sponges, laundry soap, body wash, shampoo, toothpaste/brushes and period products.

Black History Celebration and Recognition VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

The PTA would love to support Black teachers and caregivers interested in planning an event, learning opportunity or recognition of Black history and excellence. If you have ideas or wish to support this work, please reach out to deweytigerspta@gmail.com.

Grade Level and Classroom Events

The PTA has some funds set aside to support the planning of grade level events. Some grades have already hosted events, but want to be sure that for those grades that have not, everyone knows that you are welcome to plan something fun for your grade or class! Examples of this that will work in winter time include gym play time at Dewey, family game night, library meet-up, ice skating or other activities that would be low cost and free to participants. Please reach out to deweytigerspta@gmail.com with ideas or questions.

Winter Break Bingo UPDATE

Due to the end of year scramble and e-learning day, not all students received their Bingo boards. Teachers should send them home this week and students can fill them out and submit them until next Tuesday, January 17th to be included in the book raffle. Here's the info and a link to the activity.


Read, write, explore and engage with the Dewey and Evanston community with this fun BINGO activity. Your student will get a paper copy sent home or you can find it HERE.


Any student that completes and returns their BINGO card after winter break will be entered into a raffle to win a gift certificate to Booked book store in Evanston.

Fundraising Update

We have raised $3,984 towards our Winter Bazaar fundraising goal of $7,000. For those who are able, please contribute to the PTA by sending in cash or check payable to Dewey PTA; pay electronically via Zelle/QuickPay to deweyptatreasurer@gmail.com; Venmo to @deweypta2022; or Cash App $DeweyPta. These funds are used to pay for teacher support and appreciation, cultural and community events, Books and Breakfast support, academic enrichment programming like field trips, science fair, assemblies and more.
