PICTURES & NEWS
VISION TESTING UNDERWAY
The Lions Club has sent two members to conduct vision testing at St. Albans City School on Tuesday and Wednesday this week. This organization has a fantastic piece of equipment that looks much like a regular camera that screens vision quickly and accurately. It takes less than a minute per student and is comfortable to undergo.
PICTURE RETAKE DAY COMPLETED
Students and staff who missed getting a school photo taken, or those who were unhappy with their original school photo taken in September, came to the library for a photo by Cold Hollow Photography. This was the last opportunity for a professional school photo this year.
NAVIGATORS STEAM
Ms. Darcie Rankin is teaching a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Math) unit on flying for the kindergarten kids. In the class these pictures were taken, the students were asked to draw space ships and objects and then decorate flying saucers. In future classes she will have them make objects that actually fly.

FAMILIES, TELL US HOW YOUR STUDENT(S) TRAVEL TO SCHOOL
St. Albans City School has been a Safe Routes to School partner for 10 years. Their organization helps support our Walking Wednesday program and provide students with access to bicycles for our yearly P.E. bicycle unit. In return, they ask that we provide information about how students travel to and from school.
Families, if you could fill out this survey it would be appreciated. The data gathered is confidential and meant only to help provide an overall picture of what is happening with transport at City School.

NATIVE AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH
November is Native American Heritage Month, or as it is commonly referred to, American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month. The month is a time to celebrate rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories and to acknowledge the important contributions of Native people. Take a peek at the display in the library or follow this link to our virtual collection to explore these texts all month long!
NOTABLE NATIVE PEOPLE
Celebrate the lives, stories, and contributions of Indigenous artists, activists, scientists, athletes, and other changemakers in this beautifully illustrated collection. From luminaries of the past, like nineteenth-century sculptor Edmonia Lewis—the first Black and Native American female artist to achieve international fame—to contemporary figures like linguist jessie little doe baird, who revived the Wampanoag language, Notable Native People highlights the vital impact Indigenous dreamers and leaders have made on the world.
AN INDIGENOUS PEOPLES' HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES
Going beyond the story of America as a country “discovered” by a few brave men in the “New World,” Indigenous human rights advocate Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz reveals the roles that settler colonialism and policies of American Indian genocide played in forming our national identity.
The original academic text is fully adapted by renowned curriculum experts Debbie Reese and Jean Mendoza, for middle-grade and young adult readers to include discussion topics, archival images, original maps, recommendations for further reading, and other materials to encourage students, teachers, and general readers to think critically about their own place in history.
