Quilting Exhibit
OPENS MARCH 2nd at 6 PM
QUAKER HERITAGE CENTER
Quilting dates back to Ancient Egypt and was used long before the Industrial Revolution granted us the ability to mass market pre-made clothes. Historically, quilts were made from recycled, leftover, or found fabrics, and used for a variety of purposes. Our exhibit honors Quaker women and quilting in the 19th and early 20th centuries through the quilts of Meriam R. Hare Collection.Join us on March 2nd at 6 PM to open the exhibit! Then join us on March 30th at 7 PM for a talk by Roberta J. Gellner, American Quilt Studies Group and Midwest Fabric Studies. The topic will be Peaceable Labors: Quaker Quilt Connections from Virginia to Ohio.
Liberation Library and Book Loft Trip
March 4th
Help us create a library of Women's History books for and by Wilmington College Students!
The Liberation Library is an alternative to the main school library. Students are welcome to take books as they want and return them when they can. The Liberation Library focuses on books that empower and inspire students. These aren't academic books for classroom reading, these are books chosen by students and for students. The Liberation Library focuses on political readings, books by marginalized voices, important works in literature, and everything in between.
Join us on Saturday, March 4th as we take a trip to the Book Loft to purchase books for our library! Students will be given a small fund so that they may choose books to their liking to fill the library. The theme we will be buying under is Women's History Month. We encourage students to purchase books by women authors, books important to Women's History, feminist political books and everything in between.
The Book Loft is one of the largest independent bookstores in the country with 32 rooms and over thousands of books. All books are discounted, with bargain books, and some books as discounted as 90%! Plus there is a coffee shop right next door!
Through the Eyes of a 5th Grader
1130-130 PM
We will be eating together in the TOP before hand, then we will proceed to the board room to hear these stories.
Hearing the stories of those who make up the WC Community is
something that personifies Wilmington College's commitment
to inclusive excellence.
This annual Women's History Month program is one in which several women from WC, of varying backgrounds, share their childhood experiences. Come together, share, and learn. This will be an enriching event and reemphasizes the power of HERstory.
Field Trip Cincinnati Museum of Art
Join us as we take a field trip to the Cincinnati Museum of Art to see their exhibit on Georgia O'Keefe.
How well do we know iconic American artist, Georgia O’Keeffe? Scholars have examined her paintings, home, library, letters, and even her clothes. Yet, despite O’Keeffe’s long and complex association with the American photographic avant garde, no previous exhibition has explored her work as a photographer.
Georgia O’Keeffe, Photographer presents nearly 100 photographs by the artist, together with a complementary selection of paintings and drawings. These works illuminate O’Keeffe’s use of the camera to further her modernist vision, showing how she embraced photography as a unique artistic practice and took ownership of her relationship with the medium.
Discover, for the first time, O’Keeffe’s eloquent and perceptive photographic vision.
50 Shades of Motherhood
Kelly Center-McCoy Room 7 PM
Join us for a discussion on all things motherhood. We'll be bringing in mothers from all walks of life to discuss what their life, trials, and tribulations mean to them. Come hear perspective from moms, grandmoms, adopted moms, and much more!
This will be an open round discussion so come prepared to talk and listen!
Women's Wednesday
