Stowe's Sticky Notes
I hope that you were able to make it out to the Carnival on Saturday. It was an awesome success, but that is only thanks to our sponsors and our PTA Carnival Crew that put everything together. Of course we could not do it without amazing parents who made baskets, bought tickets, worked booths, etc. A special thank you to our PTA Board for envisioning everything and putting these plans into motion.
I also want to say thank you to the awesome Lake Creek and Oak Hills Students who volunteered their time to work booths at the Carnival as well!
This week is a shorter week with students getting a 4 day-weekend and returning next Tuesday. Our 1st graders will head to their field trip this Thursday. Every family also should have received a link to a survey from MISD Superintendent, Dr. Mark Ruffin.
Next week is also a short week and we will be having our iReady Spirit Week and Attendance Challenge. The students (and teachers) really got into it last year and we emerged victorious over our friendly rivals at Keenan Elementary. I have no doubt that we will do that again.
Students can help their grade levels and the campus win by completing iReady lessons from Tuesday April 2 to Thursday April 4. Only lessons completed on these days will count. Last year Lone Star student completed more than 9000 lessons in a week! Students login to iReady via Classlink. Remember that iReady can only be completed on a computer, chromebook, or iPad. (Phones and Android devices are not currently supported by iReady at this time.)
Students can also help their class win by coming to school everyday that week. We will announce some prizes later this week. Don't forget to Dress-up!
Tuesday- Math is important day & night! Wear your PJs!
Wednesday - Math makes our brains strong! Wear your favorite thinking cap or hat!
Thursday- Our future in math is bright! Wear neon or bright colors and your shades/sunglasses!
Friday - Celebrate reaching your Math Wildly Important Goal - Wear your Tribe Shirt
This Monday we also celebrated our winners of the staff vote for Teacher of the Year, Spirit of Montgomery (non-teaching staff winner), and Newcomer of the Year. Our Teacher of the Year is Mrs. Patty Anderson, our Spirit of Montgomery is Ms. Amanda McDade, and our Newcomer of the Year is Mrs. Courtney Katkoski! (photos below) These three make Lone Star Elem an amazing place to be every single day!
I hope that you all have a wonderful week and Easter weekend!
If you have questions after reading the newsletter, please reach out to the appropriate staff member and we will help answer your questions. If you're not sure who to ask, you can always reach us at 936-276-4500.

ARRIVAL REMINDERS
The most important reminder is to drive safely and be courteous to everyone in the mornings.
Here are a few other important reminders:
- The car-rider line is the ONLY method of car drop-off available and it closes at 8:15am.
- If you are parking your car, you MUST WALK your students into the school. They cannot be dropped off at the curb to avoid the car-rider line.
- If your child is attending a before school activity, please walk them to the front door and wait for the appropriate staff member to arrive to collect them.
- Curbside drop-off is never allowed.
- If you arrive after 8:15am, please park and walk your children inside the front office for a Tardy pass.
Nurse's Notes
April 8, 2024 is our next total solar eclipse and I want you to be eye wise! It is not safe to look directly into the sun during an Eclipse without specialized eye protection or solar filters fitted for your camera, binoculars or telescopes. Viewing any part of the sun through its phases during an eclipse without proper eye protection can cause serious eye injury. Eclipse glasses are NOT the same as everyday sunglasses. Your sunglasses no matter how dark they are, are not safe for viewing the sun. Safe solar viewers are thousands of times darker and comply with the ISO 12312-2 international standard. Always inspect your eclipse glasses and if they are torn, scratched or damaged in anyway please discard them. If you do not have eclipse glasses, there are several indirect viewing methods that you can use that do not involve looking directly into the sun. I hope you enjoy the total solar eclipse because the next one that you can see from the U.S. will not be until August 23, 2044!!

BARK
Dear Montgomery ISD parent,
Digital safety is critically important to Montgomery ISD, which is why we are now using Bark for Schools to help us protect students online while using school-issued technology and devices. Parents now have the option to sign up for a free account as part of Montgomery ISD’s partnership with Bark.
Bark monitors for signs of potential issues like:
- Cyberbullying
- Suicidal ideation
- Online predators
- Threats of violence
- And more
Alerts at the first signs of danger
When possible dangers arise on school-issued accounts, Bark for Schools sends us alerts so we can address the situation in a timely manner. These alerts also give us insights that help us promote the wellness of students.
Sign up to get alerts with Parent Portal
Students use their school-issued accounts both at school and at home, and families are often in a better position to respond to urgent alerts after hours, on weekends, and during breaks. To receive an invitation to create your optional free account for the Bark for Schools Parent Portal, please navigate to bit.ly/MISDbark and fill out the request form. As soon as you opt-in, you’ll be able to receive after-hours alerts if Bark detects potentially time-sensitive issues.
Bark Parental Portal Request Form Please fill out this form if you want to receive an invitation to create your free account for the Bark for Schools Parent Portal. Dismissal Notes & START and END Times
If you arrive after 8:15am, you will need to park in the parking lot and escort your children inside for a tardy pass. Students may not be dropped off.
Transportation changes can be made through PikMyKid up until 2pm each day.
The last time to check out a student early is 3:00pm. If you have an emergency, please contact the front office.
School ends each day 3:40pm and dismissal begins at that time. Please keep these times and the time it takes to dismiss all students in mind as you register students for extra-curricular activities.
At dismissal, if you need to buckle a child into a seat for car rider, after your child is safely in the car, please pull forward into a visitor parking spot so that you can safely buckle in your child and keep our line moving.
