High Performance Learning School
Introduction by Ms J Hunter
The summer term has started off with our GCSE Art exam students producing an array of fabulous work with A level students up next. A plethora of Language Speaking exams for GCSEs continue this week with written exams for Year 11 and Year 13 starting next week. Students have access to support during the exam period from their tutors and staff are always happy to support with areas identified from revision as needing additional support in the final lessons.
It is hard to believe that we have only 10 weeks of this academic year remaining! We have another bumper year group confirmed for Year 7 next year as the school continues to go from strength to strength and our sixth form is becoming increasingly popular too.
We are in the midst of refreshing our school photo album and an exciting school video is being made this term. These will showcase our school for the entire community to see.
We are looking forward to celebrating successes with students later this term and to see what can be achieved by the end of our 2023/24 academic year.

Second infra-red experiment was to simulate taking the water temperature in the ocean using a digital thermometer. Thank you to Emily for delivering a very engaging session to our Sixth Form students.
Year 7 Bikability Session
It was our pleasure to welcome the bikability volunteers Chris, Mike and Kelvin from Pendeford Bike Hub to Colton Hills on Tuesday, 23 April. In the morning, they spent time showing our Year 7 students how to do simple bike checks and also road safety protocols before taking them out into the neighbourhood for some practical lessons in the afternoon. We hope the students found the session fun and informative.
The Big Plastic Count 11-17 March 2024
Ms McClure commented: "As an eco-friendly school, we are proud to take part in The Big Plastic Count as part of our commitment to environmental change and raise awareness of how much plastic we use. Its important to contribute to research. Support our planet. Ditch the plastic!"
Year 10 Connect Ed Football League Winners
Congratulations to our year 10 Boys team for clinching the top spot in the Connect Ed Partnerships Football League Competition. They put up a good fight, showed resilience and collaboration in the team to walk away as this season's champions.
Year 8 Girls visit BBC West Midlands
On Thursday, 25 April, our Year 8 pupils and Mrs Oleschuk took a trip to a BBC STEM event at the BBC Midlands office in Birmingham city centre. Aimed at girls who are interested in #STEM, students had the chance to try out a range of roles from presenting, producing, being a camera person as well as operating the sound and lights. It was a delightful experience and our school was only one of sixteen schools in the UK to be selected for this opportunity. Fantastic work!
