Tips & Tricks for a Successful School Year
- Class connect attendance is extremely important in addition to completing online coursework. Please prioritize attending class every day and email all applicable teachers if you know you are going to be absent. Communicate with your homeroom teacher asap about any scheduling conflicts once you have your class schedule.
- Create a family schedule to stay on track with all students' class connects.
- Come to class prepared. Be sure to eat, use the restroom, do chores, etc. before or after class connects. Log in to class a few minutes early with your materials to be ready to start on time.
Progress Learning/Liftoff
We will be working in the Liftoff portion of a program called Progress Learning. We are completing diagnostics in class and then you will be able to work in your Galaxy. Below is a video to help you navigate Progress Learning/Liftoff. You are expected to be working in Progress Learning/Liftoff for 20 minutes a day. Diagnostics MUST be complete in order to work in progress learning!
Math Unit 7
Coordinate System
In Unit 7 are working with Coordinate Systems. Students will learn about plotting points in Quadrant 1 in this unit. Students will need to understand the definitions and be able to perform its function as well.

A note From Your Math Interventionist Mrs. Ratzloff
Intervention will begin in September. It is important that fifth graders are fluent in their multiplication and division facts. If you aren't, please practice daily.
ELA/Writing
ELA/Writing
This year in ELA, we will be:
- Reading a variety of more challenging texts of different types (books, newspapers and poems, for example)
- Reading for different purposes, such as to find information or for fun
- Focusing on elements of writing including style, structure and the author’s purpose for writing
- & so much more!
What to do at home
It is so important to get into the habit of reading for at least 20 minutes every single day! If you don't already do this, start today! Find books on Big Universe through the OLS or at your local library.
Science
We will begin science at the beginning of September. We will have 2 lessons most weeks and live classes. We will start in Unit 2 learning about Matter. Here are some of the things we will learn about in unit 2:
- Measure and/or describe a physical quantity, such as weight, time, temperature, or volume, using standard units.
- Identify bulk matter (microscopic observable matter; e.g., sugar, air, water).
- Explain how energy can be transferred in various ways and between objects.
- Describe the different ways in which energy can be generated from one form of energy to another form of energy.

K12 Zone
Students can connect with their classmates and teachers in the Zone! Students can connect with others through video, chat function, and audio. Additionally, the K12 Zone offers many activities for students, such as chess games, tic-tac-toe, library access, scavenger hunts, access to Stride ESports, and much more.
The zone will be open daily at 8:30am and 2:00pm.
