They engage with a scenario depicting bullying in a hallway, exploring various responses, including direct involvement and bystander intervention (advocacy), to reinforce positive and constructive ways of supporting those experiencing bullying.
8th Grade: Practicing Self-Regulation
This is the 2nd of 4 sessions on emotion regulation. Early adolescents experience their emotions especially powerfully and we can all struggle to handle strong emotions well. In this session, we learn 2 different strategies that can help us regulate our emotions.
Family CharacterDare: Start With “I”
Try to resolve some resentment or disagreement today by using the opening, “The story I am telling myself is...”
Brenè Brown shares this as a tool for all of us to help focus on our own feelings and actions instead of finger-pointing and blaming. See how much it improves communication and helps you resolve conflict without the other person. Example: “You left in the middle of movie night on Saturday. The story I’m telling myself is that you went to bed early because you didn’t want to spend time with me.”
ATTENDANCE TIPS
How To Refocus and Get The Ball Rolling Again
One of the best ways to stay on top of your schoolwork is showing up every day. When you miss school, it’s harder to catch up, and that can make things even more stressful. But even when you’re in class, distractions can still happen. Here are some simple ways to refocus and get the ball rolling again:
✅ Take a Quick Break – Step away for a few minutes to reset.
✅ Prioritize Tasks – Focus on the most important work first.
✅ Make a To-Do List – Write down what you need to get done.
✅ Change Your Spot – Find a quieter place to work.
✅ Move Around – Stretch or take a short walk to refresh your mind.
✅ Set Small Goals – Break big tasks into smaller, easier steps.
✅ Limit Distractions – Put your phone away and stay focused.
✅ Stay Positive – Remember why school is important for your future.
✅ Ask for Help – Talk to a teacher or classmate if you’re stuck.
✅ Breathe Deeply – Calm your mind with a few deep breaths.
The more you show up, stay focused, and push through distractions, the easier school will feel. You’ve got this! 💪🎯
