Suggestions! Suggestions!

Suggestions for AT HOME Supports: Now that school is in full swing, it can be helpful to provide the following at home to assist students getting back into routine and be able to follow the school schedule.

  1. Establish a consistent nightly schedule of 1. Homework/seated activity, 2. Dinner 3. Free Time/ limited Electronics 4. Bath time 5. Bedtime at a decent hour that allows them to get enough rest.
  2. Limit screen time before bed to calm the body and the mind. Calming activities can be an alternative such as reading, drawing, or coloring.
  3. Be aware of what students are watching on social media, You Tube, etc. Some shows may appear as child friendly but still include violence (examples-Rainbow Friends, Wednesday, Squid Game). Children often act these things out at school or find them as the appropriate way to show their feelings.
  4. Talk and model for students the importance of talking through feelings, how to talk to others with respect and kindness, physical aggression is not appropriate, and following ALL school expectations. Kids follow OUR lead.
  5. Students should arrive to school on time so they are able to get breakfast before the cafeteria closes at 7:45, and be ready to join classroom routines and schedules.

With parent support, we are going to have a great 4th YEAR at Southside Elementary. Thank you for all that you do.
