Message from Jennifer
Wow! What an amazing Halloween Carnival on Saturday! It was a picture perfect day for one of the best events of the year and so many families were there to enjoy it. The costumes were amazing, I so enjoyed seeing everyone's creativity on display. I also loved watching everyone engage in the games, cookie decorating, cake walk, and so much more! We had so many former Sunset View students back on campus taking part in and volunteering for our carnival! That is truly a testament to what a special community we have at Sunset View. Thank you to Diana Jones, Lisa Keith, and the many, many, many, volunteers that poured your hearts into making this a carnival to remember!
Please note, we have an extra minimum day this Friday. All students will be dismissed at 12:45.
THIS WEEK IS: A WEEK
Parking
Parents, I stood out front on Friday morning and saw cars parked all the way up Hill Street in the 3 minute loading zone and the red no parking zone. Our District delivery driver had to park in the staff parking lot to wait for parents to move their cars from the delivery driveway and then wait again on Hill St. because a parent was blocking the driveway letting their child out of the car. Please set a good example for your children by following the rules and protocols.
1. DO NOT BLOCK DRIVEWAYS. This includes the driveway utilized for trash pick up and cafeteria deliveries. This includes the driveway leading into the staff parking lot. This also includes neighbor's driveways. We have multiple complaints each week and our neighbors should not be inconvenienced because of your decision to block them in. Please stop.
2.DO NOT ENTER OR PARK IN THE TEACHER PARKING LOT DURING MORNING DROP-OFF OR AFTERNOON PICK-UP. This is a safety concern. Each day there are near misses as children dart past moving vehicles. This parking lot is for staff. Do not enter this lot during morning drop-off or afternoon pick-up.
3. DO NOT PARK IN THE 3 MINUTE LOADING ZONE OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL DURING DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP. We asked the city to rezone this area so parents have a safe space to pull up, have their children get out of the car, and pull away. Parking in these spots is not permitted and we will have SDPD ticket parked cars if this continues.
4. DO NOT HAVE YOUR STUDENTS EXIT YOUR CAR IN THE MIDDLE OF HILL ST. This is dangerous.
I appreciate your immediate attention to this matter and your commitment to the safety of our school community. Please contact me should you have any questions regarding these protocols.

ENROLLMENT OPTIONS SCHOOL CHOICE WINDOW OPENING
The Priority Choice Application Window for the 2025-2026 school year will open Monday, September 23, 2024 and closes on Monday, November 4, 2024. Remember it is not on a first come, first served basis. A lottery will be conducted in January 2025 with email notifications following soon after.
Friendly Reminders
Please bring in a Picture for Our Community Bulletin Board!
Please bring in a picture of your family to add to our community bulletin board! Pictures can be sent to your child's classroom teacher and we will take care of the rest.
Attendance
Please do not send your child to school when they are sick.
When your child must be absent for any reason, please call the office at 858-988-2000 by 9:30 a.m. every day of non-attendance, giving the exact reason for the absence. You can also email sunselm@sandi.net.
Any child arriving after 9:00 a.m. must stop in the office and pick up a tardy slip. Let's set good habits early in the school year to arrive on time.
Parking
We have very limited parking around Sunset View Elementary. The front of the school is now a 3 minute loading zone. Please be kind to our neighbors by keeping their driveways open and free. The staff parking lot is only for staff and we kindly request that you do not enter the lot. We also strongly encourage you to model good habits for your children by using the crosswalks. Running across Hill St. in front of the school and/or having children exit cars in the middle of the street is dangerous. Please pass this important message along to anyone who may be picking up your children (grandparents, child care provider, etc.). Your child's safety is always top priority and never an inconvenience. We appreciate your help.
