Message from the Principal
Happy Mother's Day to all the incredible mothers among us! Your love, strength, and dedication shape our community and inspire us every day. May this day be filled with joy and appreciation for all that you do.
I also want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our amazing PTA for the love and support they showed our FMS staff. Your kindness and generosity mean the world to us, and we are grateful for all that you do to enhance our school community.
Let's also take a moment to celebrate our recent success at STEAM Night last Thursday. It was a fantastic event that showcased the talents and creativity of our students and educators. Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to making it a memorable evening.
Please remember that there is no school on Tuesday, May 14 for Election Day. As we embrace a new week ahead, let's carry forward the warmth of today's celebrations. TIMELY: MCAP Math (Whole School)
MCAP Math will take place on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, and Thursday, May 16, 2024. We appreciate you prioritizing student attendance for both of these days in order to complete the assessment. We also remind all students to bring a charged Chromebook to school each day. It is a best practice to also ensure students have a good night's sleep and eat breakfast before all assessment days. Please review the MCAP Math Test Group List for your student's grade level prior to testing so your student knows where to report for testing: Grade 6 Math Testing Locations, Grade 7 Math Testing Locations, and Grade 8 Math Testing Locations. These lists will also be posted in the grade level hallways for reference. The schedule for MCAP Math is below.
If you have any questions, please contact Alyssa Cunneen at alyssa_d_cunneen@mcpsmd.org.

Earn a Gold Ticket for IXL Day June 7!
Our last scheduled day for Open ROCK, June 7, will be extended to one hour and will be a celebration of all the hard work our students have poured into mastering their Math and ELA skills on IXL! While all students will enjoy the extended Open ROCK that afternoon, any student who has earned a Gold Ticket by mastering 60 skills on either the Math or ELA platforms by June 5, 2024 will earn access to outdoor inflatable attractions!
Want to know how many skills your student has mastered this year? Ask them to show you on the IXL platform directly, or email your student's Math and/or English teacher. We'd love to get as many students as possible to earn access on IXL day!

Parent Support for the IXL Initiative
At FMS, teachers utilize the IXL learning platform to provide students with practice opportunities in math and literacy that is tailored to their needs and meets them at their level. FMS has instituted an incentive program that is very popular with students. The students look forward to trading in their earned tickets for fun merchandise. As we begin the new year, the school is planning to restock the store and could use our help. Please consider purchasing incentive supplies for the IXL store through the Amazon Wish List: Amazon.com
