Tennessee State University College Tour
On Thursday, April 24, 2025, our 7th and 8th grade students had the exciting opportunity to explore Tennessee State University. This enriching college tour not only allowed them to envision their future academic paths but also ignited their passion for higher education.
Let's Talk About Attendance at Hudson K-8 School
Regular school attendance is crucial for students' academic success. It allows students to consistently access lessons, engage in class discussions, and stay updated on assignments, which leads to better grades and a higher likelihood of graduating. Additionally, being present in school supports social development and helps foster meaningful relationships with peers and teachers, enhancing overall well-being and future success.
At Hudson K-8, all students are required to attend school regularly. Consistent attendance can have a positive impact on the report card scores set by the Alabama State Department of Education. For instance, each school can earn up to 15 points for student attendance. This means that if all students attend school every day, the school can achieve the maximum of 15 points, potentially resulting in a higher grade on the report card. Your support and cooperation are essential in making this happen.
Attending School Everyday Matters
Research shows that school absences take a toll on grades and performance on standardized tests. Students who attend school regularly have been shown to achieve at higher levels than students who do not have regular attendance. This relationship between attendance and achievement may appear early in a child's school career.

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo on May 5
Cinco de Mayo celebrates the Mexican army's victory over the French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. While it's celebrated in the U.S. as a day to honor Mexican culture and heritage, it's not the same as Mexican Independence Day, which is on September 16. In Mexico, Cinco de Mayo is primarily celebrated in the state of Puebla, where the battle took place.

The Coach's Corner
Dear Families,
I am so excited to be jumping into my second year as the Math Coach at Hudson K8. As the Math Coach will work with grades K-5. I look forward to working with you and your scholar this year. We have so much planned and so much to accomplish! I can not wait to get started. Together I know we can lay the foundation to a successful start in your scholar’s educational voyage. I am so fortunate to be a part of that voyage as we work together to prepare your scholar for the future.
The purpose of a math coach is to improve outcomes for students by providing evidence-based professional learning to educators. Every level of the education system has a responsibility to provide equitable education to all learners. Goals set at each level work together to positively impact student learning and growth.
A little about me! I am a mother of three and a grandmother of two. This is my 27th year in education. My college background is in Social Work and Elementary Education. I spend my free time traveling and with family and friends.
