Dear families,
We had a great week celebrating peace with Ms. Bureau! Thank you to all who sent in supplies and seeds to support our healing herbs garden.
Our 5th graders were excited to find out which club they were chosen for this week. So many eager and excited faces! We want to thank our club sponsors, Mr. Biggs, Ms. Bureau, Mr. Santos, Sra. Kupferman, Mrs. Buitron, Mrs. Vaughn, and Mrs. Kurth!
Second grade also hosted their "Celebrity Reader's Club" this past Friday. 10-time Emmy Award Winner, Ari Odzer from NBC6, came and read "Federico and the Wolf" to our second graders.
As a reminder, there is no school on Thursday for Rosh Hashanah. Wishing our families who celebrate a Happy New Year!
Friday is picture day retakes or makeups. If you were unhappy with your child's photo or your child missed picture day, kindly send a note to your child's teacher requesting their picture be taken. Students getting their picture taken can be out of uniform on Friday.

β¨ Life Skills and Wellness β¨
Hello Harbordale Families,
Please see the below message from the Broward County Schools Life Skills & Wellness Department regarding the upcoming 4th and 5th grade Wellness Survey:
From October 15 - 18, 2024, all students in grades 4 -12 will have an opportunity to participate in the Life Skills and Wellness Student Survey by Rethink Ed. The purpose is to prepare our students for the 21st century workplace by identifying life and employability skills that are supportive both academically and beyond the classroom. Parents have the opportunity to opt their child out of this 45-question/15-minute survey, by completing an electronic opt-out submission or printing and returning the form. Both can be found on our schoolβs website until October 1, 2024.
Paper Opt-Out Form (English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Haitian Creole languages attached)
Online Parent Opt-Out (This form has a link for Spanish, Portuguese, and Haitian Creole languages)
Access the Opt-Out forms via the above links or by copy-pasting the below link into your web browser.
π Important School Reminders π
πChange of Dismissal
All changes of dismissal must be made through CurbSmart by 1:00 pm. To create a parent account, you will need our school code 5305.
β°Tardies
Students must be in their seats at 8:00 AM and ready to learn. Starting 8/26/2024, students not in their seats at 8:00 AM will receive a tardy. An accumulation of UV tardy minutes may lead to full day absences. It is Florida State Law that all students must be in school every day.
πSnack
Snack time is a daily part of our schedules. A snack is a small amount of food eaten between meals. Students may bring in a hand-held item like crackers, a bag of chips, string cheese or a piece of fruit. Items that require a utensil or dipping will be saved for lunch. We strongly encourage healthy snacks for our students.
π·Absences
If a student is absent due to a vacation, a special event, etc., assignments will not be available in advance. All missed worked will be provided upon returning to class. Students will be given 2 days for every day absent to complete the assignments. Please notify the front office via our online form, written note, or phone. DOJO notifications to classroom teacher will not excuse any absences.
πBirthdays
A childβs birthday is a very special time. We afford parents the option to provide a treat such as store-bought cupcakes or an individually wrapped snack for the class to celebrate this special day. However, we do not accept goody bags or balloons in the classroom.
πͺToys
With the generous donation of recess equipment from HSA, students have everything they could want or need for recess. Please do not allow children to bring in any outside toys, cards, or items from home that can distract from their learning.
πUniforms
We are a uniform school and uniforms must be worn daily. Our school uniform is a solid red or white collared polo and solid navy bottoms. Students may also wear a solid navy dress. Harbordale T-Shirts are reserved for Fridays only. Students must also wear closed-toed shoes daily. Please no black or khaki.
π§Items from Home
Items forgotten and brought in late to school (lunchboxes, sweaters, water bottles) will brought to students during lunch time to minimize classroom disruptions.

Did you know? Our school has a weekly goal for all students to complete 30 minutes on iReady Reading and Math and to pass 1 lesson each week!
