Dear Parents and Carers,
This week has just flown by!
It took a little bit of geeing up this week after the bank holiday weekend. Lots of us have struggled to know what day it is and can’t believe we have got to Friday already.
On Wednesday, Mr Priory organised for the whole school to take part in a Yorkshire County Cricket training session. The children had a great time and LCC were impressed by their skills and behaviour. If your child would like to take this interest further, the cricket season has just started at Church Fenton Cricket Club. To sign up please visit https://ecb.clubspark.uk/AllStars/Search?location=ls249rf
On Thursday we enjoyed a VE Day picnic on the field. The children took part in a morning worship to celebrate and learn more about VE day. They sang songs and in classes learnt a bit more. The picnic was attended by one of our governors who told me that “it was wonderful. I felt very privileged to attend.” If your child would like to find out more, please visit https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/videos/cdxg8zgqxy9o
Today the police came to school! Reception had a lovely time finding out more about the police - what they do apart from ‘catching robbers’. They also had a good look in the police car.
Next week we will have a German exchange student (who is staying with a Tadcaster Grammar student) working in Year 5. It is part of their ‘developing English programme and is another way that MAT schools support each other. His name is Lukas so if you see him, please give him a Kirk Fenton welcome.
Also next week will see our eldest children taking part in their SATS. While it is important to assess where children are at the end of their primary school journey, SATS do not recognise everything wonderful about these children. I have written to year 6 separately but I know you will join me in wishing them all of the very best. We will celebrate the end of next week with a ‘Yes Day’. Hopefully there will be lots of bright colours in school - there may be pudding eaten first!!
Have a great weekend,
Mel Walmsley
