PHYSICS in ACTION: GRADE 8 DEFIES GRAVITY on the ROPES COURSE
STUDENT FEEDBACK ON THE EXPERIENCE:
- I am proud of myself for getting through it even though it seemed tough.
- Some people I didn't even know were really supportive to me on the course.
- I will remember climbing the hardest trail with my friends and having so much fun.
- I will remember going down the zip line and feeling the exhilaration.
- I am proud of how I faced my fear and did more than just the easiest trail.
- I appreciate my friends for climbing with me.
- I am proud of myself for going through the obstacles and challenging myself to climb.
- I will remember that this was the most fun field trip that I've ever been on!
GRADE 8 students had the unique opportunity to experience physics in action at the Heritage Adventure Park's Ropes Course. As they climbed and swung using ropes, ziplines, ladders, bridges and other crossings, they felt Newton's forces of balance, gravitational pull, speed and velocity... making it a memorable experience that truly represents learning in action!
Thank you to grade 8 science teachers Ms. FERREIRA and Mr. McCRACKEN for organizing such an exciting field trip, and special thanks to the CANAL GENERATING PLANT for sponsoring the trip.
BARNSTABLE DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S OFFICE
CYBER SAFETY PRESENTATION FOR GRADES 7, 8, 9
The Cape and Islands District Attorney’s Office collaborates with local schools throughout Cape Cod and the Islands by providing in-person internet safety programming for youth. The goal of the
Cyber-safety Presentation is to inform and empower young people to stay safe while using technology.
The program consists of a one hour presentation by members of the District Attorney’s Community Outreach Program along with the Assistant District Attorney. Included in the discussion will be the impact that posts and social media use can have on students' future as well as the dangers of sending inappropriate photos or messages, also known as “sexting." By sharing the risks associated with social media, gaming and use of digital devices, the aim is to encourage students to make safe decisions to reduce harm and prevent exploitation and cyberbullying.
If you would prefer that your student NOT ATTEND the Cyber-Safety presentation on November 5, please call (508) 888-4900 or email jnelson@sandwich.k12.ma.us by November 4, 2024.
