General Testing Info for Grades 9-11
- On October 18, freshmen will take the PSAT 8/9, and sophomores and juniors will take the PSAT-NMSQT. Both tests are practice versions of the SAT that provides a predicted score for how our students would perform on a real SAT.
- Testing will start at 8:35 am. Do not be late! Students should plan to arrive with enough time to find their testing location if they haven't done so already.
- Testing locations are posted in Putnam Lobby and outside the Student Services Office.
- Zero Hour classes will NOT run on Wednesday, 10/18.
- All tests will end approximately at 11:45 am.
- All students are done for the day after they are dismissed from testing.
Technology Information--Very Important!
For the first time ever, all SAT and PSAT assessments will be given digitally this year. This includes the PSAT 8/9 and PSAT-NSMQT on 10/18. As such, it is extremely critical that every student complete the following the night before:
- Completely shut down and restart your computer. Wait for any updates to process and then completely shut down again. This will allow for any automatic updates to occur and preserve your battery power.
- Charge your device entirely before coming to school.
- Bring your device and charger to the test.
- Bring your student ID and a calculator to the test. There is a built-in calculator in the testing application, but some students might prefer a calculator that they know well. An approved list of calculators can be found here (see this website).
- Students can bring water only into the testing room. No other drinks or food will be allowed.
Note: We will be collecting all cell phones and wearable technology due to PSAT rules. If possible, leave these devices at home. If students bring either of these, they will be collected prior to testing.
Transportation Information
Buses will run at normal times before and after school.
Students who choose to stay at WHS after the test must report to the Commons and remain there. Buses will leave at 3:30 from the Circle Drive like normal.
What should seniors do on this day?
Seniors have the day off from school and do not need to report to WHS on testing day. Parents do not need to call in to excuse their senior student. All seniors will be excused automatically.
Seniors should spend the day focusing on their post-secondary plans. Here are some ideas of what seniors can spend their time doing:
- visiting a college or university
- researching/applying to a college or university
- researching/applying for scholarships
- looking into potential employment opportunities after high school
